My DD's hair is really fine and she plays hard, so combing it out is a nightmare for both of us. My mom recommends No More Tangles and says it worked for my hair when I was little. Is there a more natural equivalent?

California Baby makes a de-tangler spray. Not sure what the exact ingredients are, but I imagine it's better than No More Tangles.

I've heard of people using vinegar as a rinse to help with tangles, but have never tried it.

I don't know if it will work from a spray bottle, but if you rinse her hair with diluted vinegar and gently comb through it, it should detangle pretty easily. You can also add good-smelling essential oils to make fun "flavors" for her if she likes that kind of thing, and it will mask the vinegar smell.

My dd has fine tangled hair too. I too, had to use a detangler to comb her hair. What changed was going from baby conditioner to adult conditioner. Specifically one that has some silicones in it. I know some people don't like cones but if you wash hair at least twice a week with a regular shampoo you won't have any problems. Anyways the cones give her her hair just enough slip to detangle. Then in the morning when it's dry, I brush it gently to get out the tangles, then spray with water to reform her curls. You could also oil her hair (coconut oil or jojoba oil) to help with that.

I've been using Giovanni's Frizz Be Gone on my DD's curly, never-been-cut, down-to her-waist, gets-really-bad-knots, beautiful hair. It's a natural alternative to the silicones. I use it on my hair to keep the frizz at bay, but I found out accidentally that it works great on her hair to detangle and to keep it tangle free between washes (to an extent depending on the level of activity for that day). I put a very small amount on after rinsing and towel drying her hair then comb it through. Once the hair is dry, it sort of makes the strands more slippery (not greasy) so the hair is less likely to knot together.

My son's hair is like this in the back...he is three and has already asked to grow dreads so that I will no longer comb it! I put a dab of conditioner (I use Aubrey German Chamomile conditioner and LOVE it) in the back before combing and leave it in...just a dab seems to work and doesn't leave that greasy residue.

I also use coconut oil on his hair from time to time for a little extra conditioning.

None of the spray on kids detanglers (kiss my face and a couple other natural ones) worked on my dd unless I totally soaked her hair with spray. I use a tiny bit of my natural conditioner (various brands but I really like Desert Essence) on her and rinse with the shower spray after about 5 minutes. I also found it easier to detangle if I didn't try to comb it immediately after the bath. Waiting about 15 minutes with air drying seems to help.

My daughter has fine hair (like me). I don't use a detangler on her. I use tons of conditioner in the bath then comb it out. Then when it is dry I no longer use a comb on it. I use a natural boar bristle brush and it works fantastic.

I make a spray from water, Cali Baby conditioner, coconut oil and a few drops of EO (rosemary and/or lavender). Also, I never brush or comb her hair when its wet, I always do it in the morning. It is much easier and I'm pretty sure combing/brushing wet hair damages it.
