DH has a hemorrhoid and I have no clue what to do for him. He is never constipated and this just occured yesterday. He hasn't had any since childhood. Any natural advice would be appreciated. I have tons of essential oils, but not sure which, if any, could help him.

TIA

Hi there,
Boiron, a homeopathic brand name (usually at whole foods), sells suppositories that work really well. I also suffered with hemorrhoids and was finally healed completely though by acupuncture.

Okay, this sounds really strange but I swear it worked for me. (I found this remedy online somewhere, don't have the reference handy now.) This remedy requires just one ingredient: raw potato. Any kind. Cut a chunk of potato and grate the flesh, then wrap in a bit of paper towel. Make sure it's very moist and that the towel is absorbing the potato juices. Put this poultice over the hemorrhoid area and leave it there for an hour.

I've had mixed results with this: the first time I tried it the 'roid stopped hurting immediately and noticably shrank in size after the first application. On another occasion, it didn't do much for me. However, since the only cost is a raw potato and a bit of lost dignity, I'd say it's worth a try, lol!

Edited to add: I found the reference.

# To treat hemorrhoids: Grate one medium potato; mix well with 2-3 teaspoons slippery elm powder. Form into small patty and place on disturbed area for 10-15 minutes, 1-3 times a day. This remedy may be used on sore or cracked nipples as well.

# Use a peeled clove of garlic as a suppository three times a week. You can also use raw potato suppositories to help heal hemorrhoids and relieve pain. Peel a potato and cut it into small cone-shaped pieces.

Thanks for the suggestions! I looked up rhoids in my essential oil book and it had many mixes. I handed DH basil and cypress and sent him to the bathroom. It warned that it would sting . He has applied 3x and says that it is better. He'll probably be willing to give the potato a try too.

Those little round cotton pads soaked in witch hazel really helped ease the discomfort with the rhoids I had after giving birth to DD. You could probably apply the EOs to the pads as well.

A sitz bath might help them too

He thinks I am nuts cause I keep coming up with these cures from MDC... but he doesn't complain when they work!
