Hi all, I am looking for a more natural route to treat my PTSD and newly dx PDD. I have had PTSD since I was 18 (long story) I have been in counseling since then. I also have had my 3rd baby who was born with a severe medical condition and now have PPD. I have taken meds in the past but HATE them. Is there anything natural out there?

I wish I could tell you but I don't know of any. I have PTSD too along with severe anxiety and depression and anxiety attacks. I don't take my meds now b/c I'm pregnant but it isn't easy sometimes. I hope you find something. If I run across any ideas I let you know.

As far as nutrition, the best thing for PPD is LCP's which are found in fish oil. Taking enough fish oil to get at least 400 mg of DHA per day can really help. Eating too much sugar can really add to the depression. Also, make sure you're getting plenty of sun every day, at least 20 minutes, and more if you can. Sun really helps regulate the endocrine system and also helps you make vitamin D which helps depression.

As for the PTSD, my dad had that and believe it or not, was totally cured of it in one session of EMDR. www.emdria.org He was a total skeptic, but found that he needed no more treatments after the one visit.

I have helped my own anxiety, which may or may not have been PTSD, with
EFT( www.emofree.com )It has helped enormously with my issues surrounding the health of my kids (ds1 almost died at 4 mos)

EMDR is incredibly helpful in most cases if PTSD. It is important to find a therapist who is properly trained in it for it to be effective.

I find that takiong B vitamins helps too, as well as exercise, no sugar and good rest.

Look into Somatic Experiencing. I have my first session w/ a practitioner on Wed. I am really looking forward to it. I believe I have been in denial of my PPD and PTSD for a long while ( thinking I could handle it all ), but it has gotten too intense; I feel raw all over and purely miserable. My parents put me on Zoloft when I was very young and I stayed on it for a LONG time until I took resposibility for myself and took myself off it. I REFUSE to go back on. I don't want a band-aid, I want to release my trauma. That is what SE is about. I've been reading "Waking the Tiger" by Peter Levine ( the founder of this healing art ). I felt like I was reading exactly about myself. . .how residual trauma causes depression, anxiety, unknown fears, etc.

The one thing that was really brought about true healing for me was homeopathy. Find a classical homeopath near you. I can't recommend it enough.
