Hi,
I'm looking for a natural (preferably organic) skincare line that is safe to use when breastfeeding and/or pregnant.

I have found several wonderful organic skincare lines but most have a few herbal ingredients that are deemed unsafe for pregnancy. Is it safe to use skincare that has potentially harmful herbs in it or is it just considered unsafe if ingested orally?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Depends, what's your regimen?

You might want to check out the natural family living sections too.

Thanks! I'll post in that section as well. I wasn't sure where it would be best to post.

As for my regime in case you can help ... I'm looking for a facial cleanser, toner and moisturizer for day and night.

Thanks!

Beware some of the so-called natural lines. Even Aveda. You can run any selections you make through this database: www.ewg.org/skindeep It's pretty comprehensive and rates products on toxicity.

This is a great question! I have been wondering this myself. I have been a devoted user of Alba Organics Hawaiian line for a few years now (looks like most of the items I use have a very favorable rating on the database Erin referenced; thanks for that link, by the way!). But since discovering I'm pregnant, I've thought that maybe I should ensure the ingredients are all safe.

Milky_mama, do you know of information I can cross-reference for safety? I'm wondering which herbal ingredients should be avoided.

Thanks!
I don't use a brand of products, I use hemp oil for my cleanser and moisturizer and witch hazel for my toner.

I considered buying some lip gloss from arbonne but it had ginseng in it. I didn't want to risk using it while pg. The amount may be small but it's still going to absorb into your body.

I've been using Eminence. We sell it at my salon. I have never been satisfied with the natural organic skin care lines I've tried in the past. This one is by far the best! I use the Eucalyptus concentrate facial wash and the linden & calendula moisturizer with the wild plum toner. The toner is high in iron, so it reduces redness around the eyes and in blemishes. My skin looks amazing!

I highly recommend Oyin Handmade products. The ingredients are so nice that I'd put it on my future baby's skin.

http://oyinhandmade.com/

My skin has thanked me for these products.

I was going to recommend Oyin as well. The Black Soap cleanser is great, I havent had one blemish since I started using it. I use Alba aloe and green tea moisturizer for my moisturizer, though...it's the best Ive ever used.
