We are getting ready to move to NC in a few weeks from PA, and the whole termite thing has us a tiny bit concerned as they are relatively uncommon here in PA.

I hate the idea of spraying, but I also hate the idea of termites eating my house. We are thinking of having the house sprayed soon so that it will be 3 weeks or so until we are living there. I know they only spray outside the house but of course...who knows what gets inside.

I guess I'm just paranoid they are going to eat our house...I know the larger companies guarantee that if you have damage, they'll pay to repair it provided you have an annual contract w/ them.

We've never had our lawn sprayed EVER and I hate the idea. I guess I'm wondering if some of you living in the south particularly have ideas or what you personally do? DO you just chance it and not spray, or figure you have to spray and just deal with it?

Just wondering what we can do to deter the buggers if we opted not to spray.

Our lot is fairly wooded and has some open grassy areas but we've ended up with a lot of ticks when we are outside there. Any ways to deter ticks other than keeping the yard mowed?

Get some chickens!!! They are wonderful about eating up all of the yucky bugs like ticks and termites. As an added bonus they will provide you with wonderful yummy eggs. You don't even have to have a rooster to get eggs. Just a flock of hens will do the job!

http://www.motherearthnews.com/libra...r_Pest_Control
