Totally worth the money!

review by lunalady

I was skeptical at first... I spent $300 on an organic mattress (made locally out of organic cotton and eco wool) and it's wonderful - but do I really need to have an organic changing mat?

I decided to go ahead and get it and I'm so glad I have. There's so many things in baby world that you cannot buy organic - car seat, stroller, bouncer, swing, play gym, high chair, etc... I figured I should do my baby a favor and get what I *can* organic.

We've been using this changing mat for five months, now, and I'm so pleased with it! It's very well constructed and looks brand new, still. It's cooshy and my baby is always very happy on it. He's managed to pee directly on it several times and it always wipes right off with no problems.

I almost spent another outrageous amount of money on some fitted organic cotton covers - but we've just been using towels. We had a handful of older towels that have cycled through the 'master bath to guest bath to downstairs bath to sitting in the bottom of the linen closet' life cycle, so we just fold those in half and put them over the mat and it's good to go. We also have a handful of organic wet pads that get tossed on there, too. Those work great if you feel like spending the money - otherwise the towels work just fine!

Easy buy for new parents

review by terteritup

We received this changing pad as a gift for our baby shower. I loved that it was organic and also standard sized to fit other covers. The easy-wipe surface made me feel at ease when messy newborn poops or the pee shower came in contact with the changing pad. The contour of it was enough to keep baby from rolling out when he was younger. Only compliant; the natural color of the pad is also the sane color of the strap, which clashed with our white and green bedroom theme, but hardly something to mention. Putting it on our registry was a no brainer, and shows hardly any wear and tear so it will be around for future kids without a doubt.

sometimes its better when you don't get what you want

Its hard to explain why a person would spend $90 on her first diaper changing pad, and then $2 on her second. Without writing a book on the subject anyway :). I'll try to summarize the highlights, both why I loved my first changing pad, and why I changed to the cheapest garage sale "find" I could find.

  • Organic, unlike a lot of materials baby already spends time on

  • soft even without a cover

  • fits most off the shelf covers easily

  • four contoured sides

  • safety strap is easy to use

  • expensive, compared to $2 for used clean diaper changing pads. This is especially important when you consider what the extra $88 could buy your baby!

  • Needs to be replaced after she pee'd over a crack in the PUL, there was no saving this one any more than the $2 replacement could be saved after a similar accident. Changing pad #3 for daughter #2 was also an inexpensive $1.50.

  • if its covered with an organic cotton towel and then an organic cotton cover, exactly what is the difference? Aside from the $88, that is.

If its a luxury you really want, and will make it nicer to change diapers at midnight, by all means, enjoy.

organic, works wonderfully, feels luxurious, nice sizealot of money for something she is going to pee on and ruin eventually!
