"As a kid growing up with six siblings, Stephon Marbury couldn’t understand why his parents couldn’t scrape together $150 to buy him the hot sneakers his heroes wore in the NBA.<br><br>
When he grew up and understood how much money that was and how little his parents had, he decided to do something about it.<br><br>
His solution? A $15 quality basketball shoe worn in games by the star point guard of the New York Knicks, Stephon Marbury."<br><br>
I think this is cool. I'm glad he's doing it... although I do wonder about the conditions where the sneakers are made.

How cool is that?<br><br>
And they can't be crap, because he wears them himself during the game.

That is really cool. I applaud him for his efforts. It's awesome that the quality should be about the same as expensive shoes. I would also worry about the conditions of the Chinese factories were the shoes are made.

For a little on the issue of how the manufacturer keeps costs down, see <a href="http://www.thenation.com/doc/20061002/southpaw" target="_blank">Sneakers for Social Justice</a>. I think probably the best that can be said is that their track record certainly isn't worse than other related shoe manufacturers, and so while there may be legitimate ethics questions involved the end cost still has more to do with not making the crazy kind of profits that are commonplace.

They had a story about this on the Today Show a couple of weeks ago.<br><br>
I don't like BB so I won't buy them, but if an NFL star came out, I sure would!

That's awesome - finally an affordable shoe made by a professional player that is good quality - if nothing else he is an excellent example that you don't have to wear the most expensive shoes to be a professional basketball player!

That's really nice because I see kids who crave the Jordans and so forth and it is sad really. The average kid's family couldn't afford them and if they could, does it really make sense to buy a pair of $150 shoes for a teen who is still growing and possibly on to the next fashion thing in a few seconds...

My brother has a pair, and loves them! I'm not sure if he wears them when he is actually playing games or not (he's on his high school's varisity bb team) but he does wear them other places and likes them. I love Steve and Barry's (where the shoe is sold). I bought a really nice pair of jeans for $12. And I fit into a size there that's 2 times smaller than other stores! I was stoked!

thats cool, and ive watched shows making shoes where it says they only take a couple hours to make a commplete pair, so workers could be making up to close to our mionimum wage actually...and especially since a lot of times theyre paid in factory type things like this by the piece and not by the hour..SO they could very well be paid alright.<br><br>
this does seem pretty cool though, now to gt someone to get him to pledge to wear the same pair for more than a game or two!<br><br><br>
and whats a steve and barrys? never heard of it!
