I've had a terrible week, the worst of which is that we have been the victim of some seriously unprofessional behavior on the part of our family doctor after a misdiagnosis on her part (yes, we are filing complaints on the advice of a periatric specialist, with the medical board and her group). We actually had very little contact with that doctor...we saw the fabulous NP at the office, but we are no longer comfortable seeing the nurse as she's subject to oversight by the unethical doctor.

It's Saturday, my baby has had some tummy bug for a few days and is clearly feeling poorly. I'd love to have a reassuring doctor to call, but I don't even want to call this office for a little matter like a tummy bug.

I need a new doctor fast. We prefer a homeopath but are limited to those who take insurance. We'd be happy with someone who is happy to be a good partner and listener. I also prefer a Family Doctor, but again on the advice of the specialist we saw this week, perhaps a pedi might be best...they really are fully versed in the particulars of babyhood...we'd hate to be frightened by another misdiagnosis like the one we endured this week.

Tall order, I know. Anyone have a really good doctor to recommend? We live in Lowell but are certainly prepared to travel a bit to find a good caregiver.

Oh, and if we go with a pedi, I will need a new doctor, too. I go to my midwife for well-woman visits, but I'd need domeone to be my GP. Any suggestions?

Many thanks,
G.

Yikes! That sounds horrible.

We've been quite happy with our pediatrician so far (Mark Gilchrist), although we've (luckily) only used him for well baby visits so far. He's pretty mainstream but willing to work with parents and defer to their decisions, which is more than a lot of doctors seem to do these days. His practice is in Chelmsford - you can see the website is here: http://childdocs.com/

This previous thread might help you as well: http://www.mothering.com/discussions...php?p=14723852

Also, I know it's farther away, but I believe Dr Bershel in Davis Square does some homeopathy as well: http://www.dsfamilypractice.com/

We see Dr. Mark as well. He is very mainstream, but like pp has said he is willing to defer to you as the parent on things like vaccinations, etc.

My fabulous chiropractor also recommended the Gilchrists. Many thanks, I'm in the process of getting paperwork over there!
