Hello!

We are contemplating a move from NC to Panama City, FL. Is there anyone that lives in or near the area that could give us advice on where to look, where to avoid, doctors, etc?

Thanks so much in advance.

I'm in PC. In Lynn Haven specifically. It depends on what atmosphere you're looking for in moving to PC. If you want/have to be near the beach, you'll want to look in the Panama City Beach area. If you want to be near the beach but away from the summer crowds, look in the Panama City areas of Lynn Haven, Cove, St Andrews... You can search real estate on www.panamacitymls.com You can also look at school systems at http://www.bay.k12.fl.us/departments...3/Default.aspx and it wil give you the info on which schools are Title I (under state assistance).

I highly recommend Karen O'Keefe for a realtor if you need one. She's a true local and did an excellent job for us.

For dr's I assume you mean peds. I've heard great things about Dr. Azam at Baldwin Pediatrix, and I use Dr. Rachesky.

Good Luck in your decision.

I don't know of any forums, but there are several meetup groups on meetup.com

People around here joke that this is LA - Lower Alabama and being from Alabama I can't disagree too much with them. In general though it's a nice place for families.

Hi!
I'm in Panama City. First of all, I read your blog (not finished yet) and my
heart goes out to your family.
As far as the area is concerned, I have to say it's, well, a little behind the times. The beach, however, is FANTASTIC. The Panama City Beach area is somewhat more progressive compared to Panama City.
I don't know what sort of doctors you need, but it seems to me that most specialists are in Pensacola, which is a 3 hour drive from Panama City.
As for the schools, I must say I'm not impressed, but I really don't know if there is a school out there that would meet my standards. My son is only 4, and we're trying the unschooling thing this year.
I wish I could be more upbeat about this area, but to be honest, I wish I lived in a more "natural parenting" friendly place.
