I need help! I just moved here and apparently picked THE most anti-breastfeeding, pro-vax, anti homemade food (he thought jarred food was more nutritious) ped.... And my baby was born at a hospital that jammed a pacifier in my babe's mouth and sugar water down his throat, told me to let the baby cry, gave him the hep b without my consent, and refused to let me co-sleep (actually told me I was going to cause SIDS)...this was in Massachusetts.

DH and I are thinking of TTC #2 soon, so I want to find a more family friendly hospital....one that allows co-sleeping....water births, allowing cloth diapering, etc. a plus!

I also need a ped for my baby....I want one that would at least support AP!

While we're at it...anyone have a good OB recommendation for the area? I live in Heath/Newark, so anywhere up to Columbus and around Newark/Heath/Thornville, etc would be GREAT!

This is how much help I need....apparently this area only has *1* LC, and she didn't have any recommendations....

I don't know about the Newark area, but as for Columbus, I've heard that St. Anne's hospital in Westerville (north-east side) takes a more natural approach to childbirth than other hospitals in the area. They've also recently remodeled. You may want to check them out if you want to take the hospital approach.

I delivered at Riverside, which is not as natural, but is very pro-breastfeeding. (Although they still hand out the formula bags.
) Riverside also has the Elizabeth Blackwell Center, which I believe has the largest lactation department in the midwest (not sure on this, so don't take my word for it). The hospital encourages rooming in, and requires your authorization for HepB, etc.

I've been told that St. Anne's is much more active in helping you avoid meds during labor through natural methods, though. Riverside doesn't do water births, and I'm not sure if St. Anne's does.

HTH!

if you want you can pm me and I'll give you the phone number for the OB that the CHOICE midwives use as their back up. CHOICE is also a great resourse even if you are not into the idea of a homebirth they offer Doula and other services.
