My hubby's college friend and wife just had a baby. They are as good of friends as can be living 150 miles away. (They guys are now 40, so college has been a while.
) We are going to visit them and their new baby in a couple of weeks. I already sent a baby gift, one of those warm snuggly outerwear things for this winter. They have just this week moved into a new house too, so I'd like to take something. I just don't know what. They've always been really generous with our kids.

Mom had a c-section because baby was Frank breech. She's staying home for 4 months, then baby will go to full-time daycare. From what I hear through my hubby she tried to bf but it didn't go well so the baby is on formula. She's not really the sling wearing type. I'm sure baby is in disposable diapers. So I'd like a sort of mainstream idea. I was trying to think of something for home and baby but couldn't think of anything. Oh, and they are fairly comfortable so anything obvious they probably already have.

TIA

We got one of these and it is sweet: http://www.craftefamily.com/craft/block_baby.asp

Board books are always a hit. We got a silver rattle that I love, as well.

You could put together a daycare kit with a bottle cooler for transport, vinyl labels with their last name for bottles, sippies, etc (http://www.younameitlabels.com/vinyl/default.asp) a picture frame for the mother and fathers desks, a portacrib sheet, a small wetbag for dirty clothes to come home in.

What a thoughtful friend you are!

I second the Robeez (or Bobux) shoes. Get them big enough that they can use them on baby this fall/winter when the "where the heck did that other sock go" reality will set in. Plus what parent wouldn't love those super cute and functional!) baby shoes!

My husband's work gave us this cool picture frame where one side is for a picture and the other is for an imprint of the baby's foot/hand. I think it was from the Discovery Store and the cool thing about it was that it wasn't plaster, it was more like a playdooh and then it hardened. It was super easy to do and that's what most parents need at first
I really like having the picture with the footprint and I had enough "dough" left over to make a separate hadn print too. If you mess up, you can just knead it and do it again.
