Hey there.

My husband and I are in pretty deep in the debt hole - almost $20,000. He is the only one who works and he brings home $355 after taxes. I'm unable to work due to horrible IBS. Luckily we are staying with my mother rent free....so all we pay for is our food. We average about $100 for food right now (I still have severe morning sickness so unfortunately I can only eat what sounds good). After I give birth we'll be back down to about $50 a week in groceries.

Right now we are 2 months behind on our loan - $272 a month and we are behind on all our CC's.

We were considering debt consolidation/reduction but I have heard that some companies screw you over. Does anyone have any ideas or any companies to recomend?

Thank you!

We went through a place called LOVE INC. I highly recommend it. We were at the bottom and with their help and "pantry's" we can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hugs to you mama! I know the stress you're under. Last fall I filed bankruptcy on $48K worth of cc's. My dh still had another $50K. Unbelievable I know. Anyway, dh just settled w/his cc's for a little more than half of what he actually owed them. He borrowed money at the bank to do that. As for how that affected our credit...well, I don't have any. Good that is. But I don't really need any either as long as I'm happily married

On the other hand, dh is self employed and now the company that issues his bond is snooping around b/c of the drastic fall of his credit score. So that could become an issue. However, we weren't even able to make the minimum payments on the cards. We'd never have seen the light had we not gone the route that we did.

Feel free to pm me if you'd like!

go to the library and get a copy of Dave Ramsey's "Total Money Makeover"
he also has a website where you can get some basics, but I think I prefer the book, becasue on the website are links to buying "things" to help you get out of debt, but of course, buying things is just going to make it worse.
