Hey <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
I need some additional information on the safety, experiences, etc. of homebirths.<br><br>
My brothers g/f is going to have a baby due in Sept. and although she wants to go as natural as possible, she doubts the safety of homebirths.<br><br>
I was wondering if any of you momma's had any good links or anything else for her? I would very very much appreciate any input, experience you have had as well as any good websites you have found.<br><br>
TIA <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

oh yes, I have already done that - I just don't know how much time she has - so I was just hoping maybe there was a few momma's who had some good links to a website or a favorite homebirth story they can point me too <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

This study shows that home births are just as safe as hospital births:<br><a href="http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/330/7505/1416" target="_blank">http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content/full/330/7505/1416</a><br><br>
Piles of statistics:<br><a href="http://www.globalmidwives.org/files/Article-homebirth-safety.pdf" target="_blank">http://www.globalmidwives.org/files/...rth-safety.pdf</a><br><br>
More studies:<br><a href="http://www.changesurfer.com/Hlth/homebirth.html" target="_blank">http://www.changesurfer.com/Hlth/homebirth.html</a><br><br>
This is a very recent study from Canada:<br><a href="http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/164804.php" target="_blank">http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/164804.php</a><br><br>
That should set you off to a good start <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Alongside the CPM 2000 Study and the Canadian Study I would add the Dutch study too...<br><br><a href="http://www.internationalmidwives.org/Portals/5/Home%20Birth%20-%20Netherlands%20-%202009%20BJOG.pdf" target="_blank">http://www.internationalmidwives.org...009%20BJOG.pdf</a><br><br>
Books:<br><br><b>Ina May's Guide to Childbirth</b> by Ina May Gaskin<br><b>Pushed</b> by Jennifer Block<br><b>Born at Home</b> by Melissa Cheyney<br><br>
Movies:<br><br><b>The Business of Being Born</b> a Rikki Lake documentary<br><br>
Ultimately, after some of the above, I would say they should just interview a variety of providers, including a homebirth midwife...putting a face to it all and discussing fears is the best way to show how amazing hb care is in comparison.
