I have heard some information that some women are not doing the glucose test but instead their dr's/mw's allow them to eat a big breakfast (like pancakes and syrup) and then get their blood drawn, instead of fasting and drinking the orange drink.
Is anyone doing this? If so can you give me more information? Also what is it about the "traditional" way of testing that is not good? Is it the fasting then overloading yourself with sugar? I want to get information because I do want to get tested for it but I don't really want to do the sugar drink.
Thanks!

I'm going to do the post prandial (I think that's what it's called) test with my mw. She has a specific list of what to eat in the morning before she takes my blood. I did the standard GTT with the syrupy orange drink when I was pregnant with dd. I'm choosing to do the test with my mw simply because I don't want to put all those preservatives and artificial colors and flavors into my body this time around. (I eat sweets with those bad things in them occasionally, but when I do it I want to at least enjoy what I'm eating!)

I try to eat a healthy, well-balanced diet before my indulgences, so cutting down on simple sugars and empty carbs is my best way of reducing the chances of gestational diabetes.

Your mw or dr should be able to tell you what to eat before the test so that it's accurate. Good luck with your decision!

Cutting down on processed crap, AND, here's the kicker

PROTIEN. Eat lots and LOTS of protien and complex carbs.

Has to do with the whole way your body processes things. It makes everything into glucose. If it's already glucose, then well..less work you feel hungry faster...stuff like that.

But yeah, Protien protien protien.

I'm not taking the darned test....I eat well, I know to always eat protein with carbs, or better yet, hardly any carbs at all unless I'm feeling like I'm having a "low"

But I can't stress it enough, PROTEIN!!!!!!!

I was probably confusing in my post. I was wondering alternatives to taking the test (ex. eating a meal before getting blood taken instead of drinking the drink and fasting). I want information so I can make an informed decision and present it to my mw.
Thanks!
