Need information on mono

I have just been diagnosed with mono. I have an 18 month old nursing toddler. I have tried to find out if the virus is transmitted in breastmilk but I could not find any info. Also, does anyone know of any natural treatments for this? It's pretty hard to rest with an 18 month old, a 3 year old, a 7 year old, a 9 year old and a teenager!

Hi Kim.

I was diagnosed 3 years ago with mono, or Epstein Barr Virus. I was sick for about 2 months before I could find a doc who could tell me what was wrong with me. How long have you been feeling crappy? Are you feeling crappy?
I'm sorry I can't help with the breastmilk question, but of course, the virus can be transmitted through your saliva (I am a freak to this day about not having anyone share utensils or cups to drink out of!)
The doctor who finally diagnosed me accurately is a homeopath. I remember getting a B-12 shot that was wonderful right after diagnosis. Made me feel downright normal for a good couple of days! She also treated me with...bovine colostrum. I know it sounds weird, and believe me it tasted totally awful, and I was a little afraid to take it, but I was at a point where I was so so exhausted, and feeling so badly, joint pains, headaches, and even anxiety and depression was setting in. I'm tellin you, I think that stuff really helped. I know, it sounds crazy.
I hear what you're saying about not being able to rest with kids. I remember thinking the same (I have 2 kids). I had to make myself take it easy and I had to have the kids understand I needed to take it easy. I had to rest in order to get better. The more I did, the worse I felt. The more I rested, the better I felt. I had to take it easy in order to get back to normal sooner, know what I mean? I would have to say, my whole deal lasted from January 2001 to April 2001 (I was diagnosed in March). Also important--I discovered that if I got stressed out, I got sick. That still happens to this day, but I don't get as sick as I was. So I keep my stress level in check, or at least I try to.
All this being said, I am totally fine now. But I sure do remember it like it was yesterday-having mono was the strangest thing that ever happened to me. It is also what totally turned me on to alternative medicine.
One more thing, make sure your diet is healthy. It truly makes a difference!

What symptoms are you having? I hope I have helped in some way. Let me know if I can help you in any other way. And I wish for you a speedy recovery.
Get well soon!
