Hi there,

I am about 12 weeks pregnant with my second. My first child, is having some very serious health concerns -- and I am having a hard time controlling anxiety. I know I need to do this, for my family, my daughter and my babe in my belly. But frankly, I am kind of a mess.

Any ideas? Rescue remedy doesn't do squat for me -- same for calms forte.

Any other ideas that are safe during pregnancy?

Thanks,

I would love to hear any ideas as well. I just tried rescue remedy for the first time last week so I can't say for sure if it works for me. I do yoga and meditation every day and that helps. Exercise and healthy diet I think have helped too.

B vitamins 6 and 12 have helped me, as well as the Rescue Remedy. I have to take it more often to have it help, tho. Keep your immune system up--vitamin c, ect since stress compromises it. Hugs, Nicole

Well, it is not recommended for breastfeeding -- which makes me think it probably shouldn't be used while pregnant...

http://www.kellymom.com/herbal/ref/herbs_k.html

I used kava lots before I had DD...

I know chamomile is ok -- but it hasn't ever done much for me...

Anyone know about California Poppy? I know it is safe for infants -- so I would imagine it is ok for pregnant moms -- but I haven't done enough research yet to feel safe trying it myself...

Keep those ideas coming PLEASE!!

What about hops or cloves? I checked that site but couldn't make heads or tails about hops (of course just the flowers and not fermented or distilled ) and cloves didn't seem to be listed.

One of the major changes you can make is your diet. A lot of depression issues can be tied to vitamin deficiencies. When I was having PPD my naturopath put me on a low glycemic diet, not for the PPD but for another problem I was having, I started eating more vegetables and it made a huge difference not eating refined sugars and carbs. I took St Johns Wort but I don't know if you can take it during pregnancy sorry.

Have you tried taking emergen-c to replenish some vitamins you may be deficient in? I don't think kava or skullcap are safe during pregnancy. Calms forte usually works for me - do you know that caffeine and mint make homeopathic remedies not work, or at least lose their effectiveness? A lot of people don't realize that and think the remedies aren't working.

As for chamomile, it is a mild uterine stimulant so it may not be a good idea to take it during pregnancy. My MW tells me to avoid it until I'm term. It caused PTL for her.
