Hi Mommas
Some of you may have seen last week that I am now part of this group b/c DS definitely has allergies (bloody poo) so now we are on GFCFEFSFCornF until we see the GI again next Thursday. With Pat's help, I am diving deeper into this whole "heal thyself" stuff. We had been doing water kefir and bone broths already, and really trying to eat TF/nutrient dense, but I guess it is not enough.....so with Pat's wonderful guidance I am starting all over again this week. DH is supportive, but his tolerance for experimentation is low, b/c he see's DS wake up pained 6-12x a night, and just wants to follow the pedi's advice of RTF alimentum. What I would like to know is from those of you who have gone down this path, how long did it take to see results, and did you feel not so overwhelmed by everything after a few weeks? If you could share your experiences, it would definitely give me a confidence boost. THANKS!

When I was starting out, it only took 4 days off dairy, for DS to stop projectile vomiting everywhere. And with soy (with direct ingestion) it only took one day off it, for him to stop waking up screaming all night long. And if the baby has intolerances, Alimentum isn't going to "cure" him. It might make the symptoms go away IF it doesn't have anything in it that he reacts to. But then once you start solids, you're going to have to figure it out anyway, so you may as well start now, and give him the health benefits of breastmilk at the same time.

A week off of gluten, dairy and soy made 6mo dd's bloody diarrhea completely disappear. Since then we've found a few more triggers. Two days of high folate makes she and I both MUCH happier campers, and cleared the eczema she just started developing at 2yo. She no longer gets a rash from raw tomato touching her skin. Adding taurine is tightening up both of our ligaments. Adrenal support has us both sleeping better at night (though it's requiring a lot of tweaking)

Are you drinking plenty of water? Would you like to try and figure out the nutrients you're short on? Then you can increase those for yourself and ds will get them through your milk.

thanks for replying girls.

No I am probably not drinking enough water, but YES YES YES I would love to figure out what I am deficient in and start taking those (or eating to get those) vitamins and nutrients. I did a pee PH test last night and I was on the acidic side

I dealt with acidic urine with a multi-mineral supp (I use Perque Bone Guard Forte 20).

In terms of supps, if you can find a corn-free vitC (ChangingSeasons has one, and Perque's seems to be, I think, but we're not corn-sensitive) that could help support detox in general.

I've seen changes the other ways--we have long-term detoxification issues (heavy metals, me and the kids) and last spring things were very stable, plenty of detox pathway bandwidth vs what was currently mobilized, and my son's reactions to things were mild or non-existant (he got gluten, real amounts, a cracker from the floor, and didn't react). But this spring, not in a good balance, too much mobilized and pathways are clogged with it all, and he's back to reacting more to chocolate and he started reacting more to soy.

So I can say detox pathways are important, and can change fast (I fiddled a bit and the soy reaction seems less) but I haven't solved this for us yet.

And I'd say remind your DH that if the formula doesn't work, and maybe the next formula doesn't work, you could get stuck in a bad place, without a tolerable food. At least you can fiddle with stuff yourself, while breastfeeding, but at some point you can run out of formulas. I feel like I'm healing with my kids, even though I'm not nursing either anymore, but I felt like nursing them (esp my 2nd) as long as I did, was good for us both.

Why don't you start there, and ask lots of questions here?
