Hi all, I have a plastic Rubbermaid garbage can for my diaper pail, I use a MOE liner for it and put BS and TTO in the bottom of the pail itself. Anyway, this combination has worked GREAT GREAT GREAT in that I have used the diaper pail for a solid year now and have never thought about smell or cleaning.

However even BS and TTO clearly have their limits, when I go into the bathroom my eyeballs start burning, yeech!

I checked out Clean Home Clean Planet and kept it until it was overdue, and I remember she had a recipe she claimed 100% success for cleaning stinky pails. Of course the smell got noticeable just when I returned the book.

Anyone have a copy handy? Or your fave diaper pail cleaning recipe? Ideally I'd set it out in the sun for a few hours, after all I do live in Hawaii, but we are under some sort of weird weather thing where we haven't seen the sun in weeks and we are all trying to decide whether our houses are going to float away or just drop from mildew and dampness. Paradise. Ha!

Thanks in advance!

I don't have that book but I have a couple ideas for you...

Do you have any bio-kleen bac-out? That's what I use to clean my pail. I use it watered down in a spray bottle. Spray it in and let it sit a while.

You could also try a vinegar solution. I would spray it, let it sit. Wipe out. Spray again, let sit etc. until the stink is gone.

I've always just poured vinegar into the pail, enough to cover the bottom. Then I put it in the shower and fill it up. Then let it sit for a couple hours. Pour out water, wipe clean, fill again, empty, dry.

You could also add TTO, but I didn't have it when I was doing this.

I don't use a bucket, I use a 13 gallon trash bag (because I have to take it to the laundromat anyway) that fills up with diapers and I wash once a week. I never have any dipe smell nor do I add anything to the bag. Perhaps you should put your dipes somewhere other than the bathroom?

Thanks for the ideas - I think I'll try the vinegar-in-the-shower thingy. I like using the bathroom for the dipes because I can also use it for my cloth wipes and mama cloth. I'll update once I do it, we had a mold situation I had to deal with today instead - used straight vinegar plus fresh air and so far MUCH better. So I have high hopes for the diaper pail. Thanks for all the ideas!
