Gavin is now almost 9.5 months and a couple of weeks ago we decided to have a second try at feeding him solids. (First ended a week after it started at 6.5 months due to his carrot sensitivity) Applesauce was fine but I realized a few days after we'd started him on banana that he's allergic to it. So, we stopped the banana and a few days later he seemed much better. (He was refusing the applesauce, so we're back to "whenever he starts trying to feed himself", I think)

Previously I'd had to cut out much of my diary intake because it was causing him problems. He was fine if I had it in just very small doses but would have problems if I had a large glass of milk. In the past months, however, that sensitivity was much better, and I was able to have pretty much normal dairy intake without paying much attention to what I was eating.

Since Wednesday, however, I've been having slightly more dairy than normal (about 2 oz more a day) and even though Gavin isn't having any solids, his cheeks are red again (not eczema, just red) like they were when he was eating banana and while we thought he was just sick on Thursday with an intestinal bug, we now think it's related to a new increased intolerance for dairy because it's like he's a newborn pooing all the time - yesterday morning I even had to get up at 5am to change him *twice* (had I waited one more minute the first time, it would have only had to be once, but I wasn't waiting around to see if he'd go again) for the first time since he was probably a month old. The poo he does have doesn't look like it did when he was little and had a dairy intolerance, so I'm still not positive, but have no real clue.

Can his newfound banana allergy have triggered something to make his dairy intolerance worse or is it just simply coincidence? Is it even possible for dairy intolerances to come and go?

When someone has an allergy like what your son is going through, it puts their digestive system into a real state of "upset". Eating the banana could have caused some difficulties in his digestive system that were still not healed so when the dairy came along, it was going into an aggravated area instead of one that was maybe more healthy, therefore he reacted more severly. His digestive system is upset so anything or everything will be more difficult for him, especially things like dairy that are already problematic for him.

Have you tried giving him some probiotics? There are child friendly forms that are easy to give little ones. I started with my youngest around 4 or 5 months old.

There is a great book I've just read that really explains a lot about allergies & the digestive system and ways to help heal yourself of them. It's called, "Allergies, Disease in Disguise" by Carolyn Bateson-Koch. She looks at different causes of allergies, and all natural ways of healing the body.
