New baby and cloth learning

My new little pixie was just born Thursday morning. I have finally gotten to use the diapers that I have been obsessing over for the last few months. I think I am doing pretty well with the learning curve. I can see why so many give up on it after a short time. There are so many things to take into consideration and it is so nervewracking trying to get it right with a tiny new baby screaming.

Sarah hates being changed. I think it is a combination of the cold air and all of the fumbling that I have to do. I used disposibles at the hospital and she hated it just as much with them. I think things will get better as she gets more adjusted to sensory experiences.

I have decided that I hate the proraps newborn size covers that I have. They are so impossible to get fitted well over the infant UBCPFs. I have had complete success with containing blowouts, which I am proud of. I have decided that I am going to try to use the small covers that I bought, and I really like the fit of the Bummis ISWW. I'll probably get more of those.

I have no newborn AIOs or pockets. I will start using the smalls once her cord stump falls off. I look forward to that. The couple of fitted newborn diapers that I have are cute but are on her such a short time that I haven't really decided that they are superior to the CPFs. Also, they didn't fit any better under the proraps. Is it just my girl that doesn't fit into the proraps? She isn't huge or anything, just 7lbs. 9oz. at birth, 19 in.

Also, for women who are pregnant and are preparing for their new cloth diapering experience (who haven't done it before), I bought 24 infant UBCPFs 4x8x4, 12 infant CPFs 4x6x4, 1 Kissaluv 0 and 1 newborn KHW. I have used almost all of these diapers already since Friday at 3:00pm - that is about a day and a half. I have already done two loads of diaper laundry, one yesterday and one this morning. The dipes from yesterday are almost all dry, I had to hang them up to finish when they weren't dry after two full cycles in the dryer on high. I am totally scared to go any length of time after Sarah has pooped without changing her. I just don't want her to get a rash.

Thanks for listening. I am just so excited about my experience.

Yikes! Thanks for the heads up! I'm going into this with no experience (1st babe, haven't even changed a sposie in over 15 years) so I'm really not sure what to expect. Looks like I might want to pick up some more CPFs.

Congrats on your new little one!

Congratulations! Try not to worry about the poo too much... bm poo is very mild. I remember laying in bed after nursing a nb to sleep... so tired and hearing him poop. I thought to myself "I'll just wait one more minute to change him" and I ended up falling asleep for a couple more hours.
They never got a rash though.

cloth diapering got sooooooo much easier after her cord stump fell off. Then it was fun! Enjoy!
congratulations!! i agree it gets easier when the cord falls off and when you (and baby) just get more used to it. plus eventually she probably won't wet/poo as often. also, i had the opposite experience as pb_and_j in that my dd had very sensitive skin and would rash up pretty badly if left in a dirty diaper for any length of time. we got very little sleep those first weeks as she would doze off to sleep and then poo and then i'd change her, she'd wake, doze off, poo, etc.
ah the good ol' days. enjoy your new baby while she's new. mine is a walking, starting to talk, 20-lb, 14-month old already!!
