My daughter Taylor is 3 weeks old as of yesterday. She already has her first diaper rash
. I know I changer her often (20+ diapers per day). At first I thought it was just a regular rash - but it wouldn't go away. I called her pedi to get a perscription, but they said just go buy lotramin (sp?) so I did. Well that was Wednesday - and today is Saturday and it DOESN'T LOOK ANY BETTER! So I plan on monday calling in to try again to get a perscription.

Around the house she is going coverless - with a CPF and we lay another CPF under her. Well that means I go thru them QUICK. I was already washing everyday!!! I have 36, but I am going to have to order another 18..... I know she should go naked too - it is just soooo scary! Everything is so explosive so naked is alot for me. However DH gave her some naked time last nite.

And I have some dipes in the wash now - I am sending them thru w/ some vinegar. But is there anything else I need to do to treat them? Is there yeast in her dipes? If so, how do I kill it??? Remember, I am new to cloth......

TIA

dd had yeast the first week she was born. My sister is a ped and said that the hot dryer is enough to kill yeast. I put gse in the wash just to be sure though. We have been yeast free for 9 weeks but now it's back. I don't think it's from the dipes, because dd 1 was in sposies and would get yeast once a month
. I'm currently trying gentian violet on her bum, and yes, it stains, but it makes my UBCPFs look a lot more fun:LOL
I hope your little one gets better soon

Kayla had a yeast infection that went away and just came back. I am washing her diapers today with AT LEAST 10 drops of Tea Tree Oil (you can get it at a Health Food Store). It is a fungicide.

Can you describe the rash? Kayla's yeast rash was pretty bad and I noticed improvement right away. Her repeat rash that she currently has disappeared over night.

Here is a link about diaper rash with pictures of a yeast rash: Dr. Sears

I hope your baby's bottom gets better fast!

If it looks painful, you can do a combination of Lotrimin and hydrocortisone to help the redness and swelling. Some people here have had good luck with making a paste of acidolphilus powder and water. Keep in mind that yeast isn't from wearing a diaper cover -- it's an intestinal imbalance. So don't beat yourself up about the naked time/going coverless thing. (Not that airflow isn't good for her, just that yeast isn't caused by that.)
