Hello everyone,

My name is Lillian Gimmelli and I am new to the forum. This is such a wonderful forum.I have read a few lists and they are just great!!! I need some help from those more experienced.
I am 4'11" and I weigh about 205 pounds, I had my second child 8 months ago, I would like to start the ETL 6 week program to lose weight and also walk on my treadmill and some PIlates. Can someone give me some suggestions on starting ETL and on how much and how long I should be exercising on the treadmill and pilates to get the maximum weight loss possible. I also have a 7 year old son, and with the two of them I need alot of energy....which I don't have. I take my son to the pool, but I don't join him in the water because I refuse to wear a bathing suit...I am too embarrased...needless to say my self esteem is shot also. I would love to be in better health and shape for Christmas so that I can play in the snow with my kids and be able to bend and not get winded.

Oh, please any help and advice that anyone can give me I would so appreciate it! Thank you in advance for your prompt reply and great advice. I really am enjoying reading the posts....they are very motivating for me.
God bless and have a great week.
Welcome Lillian!

I am not doing the "Eat to Live program", but there is an ETL thread for newbies that you can join. I'm sure they will be more than happy to help you with your questions.

I've done ETL and it's great! Right now, though, I'm changing my whole way of looking at myself. I always wanted to lose weight fast but that led to a lot of unhealthy methods. I read somewhere to focus more on direction and less on speed. It's kind of obvious, but for some reason it just hit me hard. I could never figure out how to make eating right and exercising part of my lifestyle. It was always a means to an end. And then when I'd get even semi-close to that "end" I'd end the changes I was making. I've done a lot of yo-yoing!!! But that was because I was only focused on speed. So, my suggestion would be to not worry about losing it fast. Make a small change and stick to it. Become a person who walks. That already puts you in the right direction. Make a committment to a friend to walk 5 days a week and don't let your friend down. I've started doing this with a friend and we don't even live near each other. We call each other every morning before we start the walk. It's been amazing!! This is our third week. We have started really slowly. So slowly that at first I scoffed. The first day was 10 minutes. We are up to 35 min. now and next week we'll be up to 45 min. Having her doing it with me is the best because I can't let her down. She really needs me. I don't think she has any idea how much I need her!! But, I do tell her.

ETL is wonderful!!! But, I wasn't sticking to it well enough and it was too drastic for me to make it a lifestyle change. I felt guilty and like a failure when I'd go off the diet. So, right now I'm making sure I eat 5 servings of vegetables every day. Sometimes I'll have fruit, too. I still struggle with wanting to eat a bunch of junk but it's going in cycles. I ate way too much beef last week. Blech! This week I'm doing fine. Eating too much beef is a step in the wrong direction, and I'm about direction right now.

Find a mantra that works for you and keep repeating it to yourself. I say "focus more on direction than speed" about a thousand times a day!!! A friend of mine uses this, "Finish each day And be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and Absurdities have crept in. Forget them as soon as you can.---Emerson."

I don't know anything about pilates, but I think its benefits are similar to yoga? If so, wow! Doing yoga was so great for me! I keep meaning to go back to it, but I'm not there yet. Baby steps. It'll do so much for your flexibility and strength!

Well, congratulations for making this decision! I hope for you an enjoyable experience. I hope you learn to love to exercise. I hope you love veggies. You are already heading in the right direction!!!
