I'm loooooving the <a href="http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTvanillaspice.html" target="_blank">Vanilla Spice</a> cardigan, new at Knitty.<br><br>
Thing is... after reading the comparisons of TLC Cotton Plus and new <a href="http://cache.lionbrand.com//yarns/newcottonease.html" target="_blank">Cotton Ease</a>, I'm thinking of substituting the Cotton Ease for the recommended TLC Cotton Plus. The yardage is different though... will it make a big difference? I haven't seen either of these yarns IRL. I may be making the 30 minute drive to the next town today and there's a Michael's and Joann Fabric there so I just might have to make a pit stop there and either store carries it. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
Also, I love the stitch pattern in the sweater but lean towards- do you guys thing that would hide the beautiful stitch detail? If so I'd stick to the cream/stone color...<br><br>
TIA!

I think that stitch pattern would show nicely in the red (I think that's what you're asking). As long as it's a solid (not flecked or heathered) yarn. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I also love that it has so many size options!<br><br>
I don't know if I'd wear it, but I'm just itchin' to try my hand at <a href="http://knitty.com/ISSUEspring07/PATTarietta.html" target="_blank">Arietta.</a> Lots of colors, but no stranding or intarsia? Hmmm... <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/orngbiggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="orange big grin">

I'm still torn between the cream and the taupe... I'm hoping one of the stores will have the cotton ease or cotton plus in stock so I can see the colors in person. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/fingersx.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="fingersx">: The cropped cardi is soo cute but it would just maximize my curvy hips. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/redface.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Embarrassment"><br><br><div style="margin:20px;margin-top:5px;">

I'm on pattern overload... I'm in a big yarn buying craze (my stash is pretty small right now) and I'm just dying to knit.<br><br>
Our KnitPicks order is in Indy (an hour or so away) but isn't scheduled for delivery until Tuesday. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/irked.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="irked">:

I'm in love with Vanilla Spice and Arietta, but I just happen to have six hanks of Artful Yarns Fable, an 85% Pima cotton/15% silk blend sitting in my stash waiting for a project so I'm going to give Vanilla Spice a try. It's a multicolor yarn - 4ply, each ply a different color.<br><br>
You can see photos of the swatch here:<br><a href="http://crayolaab.blogspot.com/2007/04/swatching-for-vanilla-spice.html" target="_blank">http://crayolaab.blogspot.com/2007/0...lla-spice.html</a><br><br>
The bottom half of the swatch is plain stockinette, the top part is the seed stitch pattern. I think it looks just fine in this yarn. I hope that helps you decide what color to use!

Thanks Abigail. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"> I didn't end up having time to go to any of the yarn stores so I'll try again next week, or I may just have to choose a color and order online!

So I cast on for Vanilla Spice last night. I'm about 3 inches into the body and I'm loving it! The pattern is easy to follow and I love the fact that I don't have to seam when I'm finished - there's nothing to dread <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/wink1.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="wink1"><br><br>
I am contemplating adding waist shaping but I am undecided on this. I think I might just go ahead and work it as written, and then make Arietta later for a more fitted cardigan.

Oooh, I'm jealous! I forgot that dd has an appointment tomorrow and going to Michael's and JoAnn would be a perfect way to kill some time while she's there. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"> Hopefully I can find the yarn I want, if not it's off to search Google for the best price.<br><br>

I hope you find some yarn you like. I apparently can't count and my gauge does NOT match after all so I'm a bit worried I'll run out of yarn. I am pretty sure I'm going to have to buy more and the dye lot will be off since I got the yarn I'm using 3 years ago, so I'll have to get enough extra to do an entire arm and just hope it isn't a noticeable difference, I think. I'm leaving off the pockets (I would never use them anyway - they'd just sag if I put anything in them, and they're too high for hands) and adding about 3/4" of length. I'm 6.5" in to the body now. It's a really quick/easy knit. Leaving off the pockets will buy me an extra 1" in the body according to the designer but I don't think that's enough given my wonky gauge.

I'm making progress. Still stressing about yarn but I won't worry until I finish the body. If I can finish the body with 1.5 skeins to go I hope I will be OK. We'll see.<br><br><a href="http://crayolaab.blogspot.com/2007/05/vanilla-spice.html" target="_blank">http://crayolaab.blogspot.com/2007/0...lla-spice.html</a>

It's looking great! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/thumb.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="thumbs up"> My friend said there's no Cotton Ease at Michael's or JoAnn so that leaves me with Hobby Lobby... I'll have to check there on Tuesday. I may just be ordering hte yarn online, if so then I have to choose between KnitPicks Shine or Cotton Ease. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol">

I think the Shine would be lovely for this. It's a tiny bit splitty though. I have never seen Cotton Ease so I don't know what it's like.<br><br>
I hope you find something you like!! I split for the arm holes last night - now I'm working on the back. I can't wait to be done! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile"><br><br>
MTA: I finished the back and the right front!! I put some new photos on my blog but they aren't great. Tomorrow I'm hoping to finish the left front and then I'll probably have to put it aside for awhile. I've got to do a bunch of things that require my hands <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

Ok, I just finished the body and can now try it on. I like it! I wish I had done bust shaping (I always wish that but can never be bothered to do it). But, I think it is nice. Now I have to do the arms. I have maybe 2.5 - 2 2/3 skeins left so I hope I will be OK for the arms.

Wow, you're really moving along! I'm probably just going to have to order some online because gas prices went up again and I just don't want to spend a bunch of gas money trying to track down the right yarn. <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>

Can you do both sleeves at once? Like two socks on two circs -- then you would end up with 2 the same length and could switch them to 3/4 length if necessary...
