Hi All!!!

I am a new mom living in the Atlanta area. I found this forum and thought i'd say Hi!

I thought it would be nice to chat and get to know other local like-minded moms. I see that you all have get togethers sometimes - when the weather is nicer I hope we can join you all at some point.

Hi Christine!
I live in Alpharetta too! There are not too many others on here that are in Alpharetta. I have a 3 (almost 4 year old) and a 10 month old. Check out the East Atlanta thread. We try to get together weekly. Can't wait to see you around. I am happy that there is another like-minded mommy in Alpharetta!

Hi Christine, welcome!

I just moved from Sarasota, FL to Roswell(really East Cobb) in July. We're not too far from Alpharetta. We are usually headed to NP mall, or to the mall area, about once a week. My youngest DD was born Sept 6th (2002).
I have 2 other DDs, 7yrs and 5.5 yrs, that I will be homeschooling after the holidays.

Hope to see you around!

We just moved to Alpharetta in Aug. I am very interested in meeting the few MDC moms in the area, since there are so few of us!

Just glad to know there are some of us out here.....

Monica, what type of homeschooling are you doing? There's a group of us in Roswell, Alpharetta, Cumming, Tucker and even Dallas working on a Waldorf homeschooling group. It just started last month but we are trying to get it underway.

Blessings~

There's a NE Atlanta thread of moms who get together every so often. For me, it's usually too far of a drive from where I live to where they all meet (varies from peoples homes, to parks, etc usually in Decatur or Stone Mountain area)
I am just familar with my local area here - so a little nervous about venturing towards the city. I usually walk around my apartment community, go to North Point Mall, etc...

I hope to homeschool ds when he's older (almost 6 months old). It's nice to know that there's other local MDC mamas hsing. I know I will definately need to network when the time comes.

I stick around here and have started venturing out to meet new people in Roswell and East Cobb. We are a one car family for the moment, so we keep our travels to a minimum right now.

PM your apt community. We live in a condo, so I'd laugh if we're in the same community or right next to each other. We're on Deerfield.

Atlanta seems so big, but it's not. I grew up in Conyers (a place I would NOT live) and had family in Tucker and Clarkston. Traffic in ATL stinks though. My DH just began a new job in Buckhead and the drive is awful.

Along the lines of networking, I am working towards beginning a center for mothers and families. It's just in the brainstorming stage right now but it'd be around this area or maybe Roswell. Let's keep in touch.

We're just doing some eclectic stuff right now, mostly unschooling to "de-school" a bit more. My oldest went to a Montessori school for K and 1st grade in FL. I would like to use some Mont and Waldorf ideas for my girls while HSing. I'd love to hear more about your group.

We're closing on our house in Marietta tomorrow! When we're all settled in, I'd love to host a get-together.

Hi!
We're going to move down to Roswell (just over the line into Cobb) ASAP. We've had our house in Sugar Hill on the market for 4 months- but we just may get a contract tomorrow! I'd love to meet some of you mamas when we get down there. Your ideas sound really interesting.

I hope contracts and closings on homes went off without a problem! Been out of the loop with sick, stuffy, feverish family.

I will keep you guys posted about starting the center. I am trying to work out a date and time to have a meeting of people interested who would like to be a part of its creation. If I try to get this started by myself, I will seriously short-circuit from an overload! Just reading all of the posts from all of you inspires me to get it going!

But I will let all of you know ASAP. It will be sometime in April or May. (I've got in-laws -SIL and family specifically- living here temporarily that are fogging my brain
: with their lifestyle versus ours. They are moving into their new home by the end of this month!!!! YEAH!!!!!!
)

Blessings to all~

Meg - thanks for the info! We are actually going out of town this weekend, but would love to try to meet up with you all next time!

BTW - I usually go to LLL N Fulton. Maybe I should try the Cumming one?

I love the cumming group..it's a better fit for me than the N Fulton one was..I'm a little more unconventional that most here, though
I not only BF, but cloth diaper, knit wool soakers, use cloth mama pads, etc. I came here from California..probably had a bad influence on me LOL!
That said, it's not a crunchy group or anything, it's a normal LLL...I just happen to find the moms more like me

I just started using cloth about a month ago and
it. I am planning on using mama cloth - AF hasn't returned yet though. I have some Luna Pads that I bought to see what there like. I know what you mean about the N Fulton group - but since it's closer to me, so I've been going there. I don't know any other mamas like me IRL, so it's nice to know there are others around here.

ETA - Where does the Cumming LLL meet? TIA

Meg,

I feel the same way....

I was listening to Star 94 yesterday & the were discussing a situation about a MIL wanting to buy formula & diapers each month. Then something was mentioned about a diapering service and the female host said, "I'm not 85! No one washes cloth diapers any more. They buy the ones you use and throw away!" I have been considering e-mailing her and letting her know that cloth diapers are an option and that breastfeeding is another one. Then the couple could save TONS of money...

Basically, the people that I knew here before we moved to Alpharetta and the people I have met all look at me strangely when I mention breastfeeding, cloth diapering, vegetarianism, let me not mention my cloth pads to anyone or else I'd be ostracized.
I was considered fairly "normal" in Athens.

I'm heading over to your list and can you PM directions? I'd love to come.

Hey, thought I'd post this about Waldorf HS in the area. We're in our beginning stages, no official thing going yet, but we are starting to meet together and plan. We want to do a parent/child type "class" once a week and then it was suggested a Mother's night too. Again, we are just in the beginning, but we'd love to have more on board.

Christine,

I meant to post to you at the same time I did Meg about the LLL meetings. Thanks for the invite to the N. Fulton one. We've been quite stuffy and feverish, but it's clearing up and getting back to normal around here. Meg said the Cumming meeting was just on McGinnis Ferry, which isn't that far at all. It's just a few miles from us.

I am really glad there's a growing number of "Our Kind" out here.

You will LOVE cloth pads when AF returns..mine isn't back yet either, but Sophie is only 3 months old. Once I used these I never wanted any other kind. Anyway..Cumming LLL is at Lord of Life Lutheran Church at the corner of McGinnis Ferry Rd. and Christopher Robin Road. I take Jones Bridge to McGinnis Ferry and turn right, it's a couple blocks from there on my right side..turn right onto Christopher Robin Rd and left into the church lot. We're in the nursery..meeting is March 8 at 10:15am
