Hi! I just found out late last night that I am pregnant. I've been married for 2 weeks. I am still processing the shock and can't seem to grasp this concept! I am very scared, but completely plan to keep this baby. I just don't know where to start. I live in Kansas city, MO and would like to be hooked up with good midwife. If anybody has any advice or suggestions, I would be very grateful!

Welcome to MDC!! You'll find some great information here. Be sure to check out the due date forum section to find other mama's who are due the same month as you. Then check out the vax forum, breastfeeding...oh gosh!! There's so many forums you should check out!!!

Congratulations!!! Everything happens for a reason. I realize that you're maybe still in shock, but truly this is a miracle meant to happen!!
Welcome to MDC. This is truly a great place.

Here is some very good advice: Come and lurk in the Vaccine Forum and then post questions, before you are too far along in your pregnancy.

You will be surprised how much information you'll get there. Because that is one of the first things they'll want to do to your baby, inject some chemicals. :sad

Glad you found us.

Thank you all for the encouragement! I have never posted anything on a forum before, so I don't really know how to navigate around all this yet. In response to the vaccine comments, I know all to well the effects vaccinating your child can have. I used to work for a defense attorney who dealt with Autism/mercury poisoning. I quit after realizing what I was working for in defending the pharma companies.

I looked into the midwives around my area and didn't see one I am particularly interested in. Has anyone heard of Woman's Hour? Are they still in operation near City Market?
You can ask some mamas in the Missouri, Illinois, Iowa tribe. They might be able to answer your question! Good Luck!

Welcome! Congratulations on your marriage AND your pregnancy! What an exciting time in your life!

There's a lot to learn here, I hope you'll have fun exploring the forums! My particular fave is the Case Against Circumcision and I also learned so much about birthing and breastfeeding from the wise and helpful mamas here.

Since I am new to all this pregnancy stuff, does anybody have any tips on eating habits this early on in the pregnancy? Is drinking too much coffee bad for the baby? Should I cut out all caffiene? What is the best thing I can be doing/eating at this point? I have my first appt on the 14th, but don't want to wait that long to start being as healthy as I can for my baby. And also, I have had the WORST cold ever since I've been pregnant. I wake up every morning completely stuffed up and sneezing. I heard this is typical for early pregnancy, is this true?
Welcome! You sound like you are well informed already! Just try to eat as well as you can at this point, plenty of veggies, fruit, whole grains, nuts and protien. Folic acid is really important at this time, I personally started taking rainbow light brand prenatals right away, as well as omega 3 fish oil supplement. Pop over to the pregnancy board, people discuss all that stuff over there. Just reading a lot of the posts can be informative. http://www.blueribbonbaby.org/ is the bradley childbirth method pregnancy diet. Lots of mamas like that as a guide.
Good luck and congrats!!

PS edited to fix the link!
