I am using Fuzzi Bunz on my 6-mo baby girl, and we are having lots of problems lately. We've been using them part-time for the past few weeks (disposable at night still, so far). She has had a bit of very slight rash, on and off, but she has been pooping more frequently lately, and the rash is becoming a problem). It seems that she handles the cloth diapers just fine if she doesn't poop, but once she poops, she gets a rash right away. Once she has a rash, it won't go away if I am using cloth diapers, but it will go away if I put disposables on her. It won't go away if I use cotton prefolds, either.

I've been using the cheap powder detergent from Sam's Club because I read on a detergent review site that it is a good bet for commercial detergents. I am now beginning to think the detergent is a problem, but I don't want to invest in ordering a large quantity of Allens Naturally or other good detergent if the problem is something else.

Does anyone know of some simple washing I can do with household products, in a pinch, to determine if it is the detergent or just Fuzzi Bunz, in general? I'm going to try stripping by just doing a hot water wash - no detergent or anything.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Maybe try washing them in just vinegar? That would be cheap and effective. I would also wash them a few times(maybe more) to be sure you got all the residue of the old detergent out.

Nothing has changed in HER diet - she is still exclusively breastfeeding. I generally avoid dairy, except small amounts of cheese and occasionally butter, but I did eat about 2 oz of cheddar cheese two days in a row.

I washed them without vinegar in a hot wash twice, before reading your post. During the second cycle, I looked in the washer during the agitation and saw a tiny bit of suds (barely any), so I think that might be good! If I used detergent, there would be significantly more suds, I would think. So I will try tomorrow. If she doesn't get a rash, I may try washing with just vinegar.

Does anyone do just vinegar, and if so, why does anyone pay for detergent?

For the record, I've heard that vinegar will harm the PUL on fuzzibunz. Not sure if that's rumor or fact though.

My guess is the poop is irritating her skin (DD the same) so when urine is added even after cleaning it irritates it more since sposies do pul the urine away more i can see why it would "clear faster" My guess is also shes eaither teething or soon will be. I'd try using some type of barrier cream and seeing if that doesn't help.
