Has anyone heard this?

The state Public Health Council is set to adopt new recommendations Monday to add four new mandatory immunizations. Children entering preschool or day care would need flu and pneumonia shots, and 11-year-olds would need a booster shot for tetanus and whooping cough and another for meningitis. If enacted, New Jersey would be the first state to require the flu and meningitis shots.

I'm really upset about this. Even though we vax, we delay. And we don't do the flu shot. I'm so

There is still time to contact the governer and health officials....call or e-mail...do something!! Please!! A quick call or note to say you are opposed is enough.

Please call New Jersey 's Governor Jon Corzine at (609) 292-6000 and politely demand that this plan stop immediately. e-mail - http://www.state.nj.us/governor/govmail.html

Also call the members of the Public Health Council and ask then to vote no on Monday. Again please be very polite to anyone you speak to:

Director of Legal and Regulatory Affairs at the Public Health Council - Ruth Charbonneau, at (609) 984-2177

· Minnie Campbell (908) 737-3390

· Herbert Yardley (973) 579-0370 - NJ Public Health Council Chair, Herbert Yardley, who is also the Health Officer for Sussex County, can be contacted at [email protected]

· Dr. Lawrence Harte (973) 729-5277

· Riki Jacobs (732) 246-0204

· Michael Gross (732) 607-7918

· Robert Gogats (609) 265-5548

· And call Health Commissioner Fred Jacobs at (609) 292-7837, Again, please be polite. e-mail - http://www.state.nj.us/health/commiss/contact.shtml

Here are some facts....

First time flu shot is two doses. The flu shot contains 25 micrograms of mercury. The EPA “safety limit” is .1 (point 1) microgram per 2.2 pounds of body weight. That means that 25 micrograms is safe ONLY if you weigh 550 pounds. How can they approve this shot for anyone and they want to give infants the shot twice?!

Prevnar has been linked to development of “super-bugs”, those antibiotic resistant bacteria we have heard so much about lately. We can provide the information to them if they want it.

If NJ adds TDaP: Contains Formaldehyde, a carcinogen. The amount of aluminum acceptable for an adult male is 25 micrograms per day. So an infant safety level would be much lower than that. ADACEL (Sanofi) has 150 mcg of aluminum and Boostrix (GSK) has 39 mcg of aluminum.
The CDC minimum recommended age to receive this is 11. The mandate ONLY says Grade 6. Can’t you be age 10 in Grade 6? Why didn’t the council protect the children by being more specific as to required age?

If NJ adds Meningococcal vaccine: (meningitis): Sanofi Pasteur Menomune multidose contains 25mcg of Thimerosal. Again, not safe as detailed above under Flu shot. You can say that the US Court of Federal Claims, Office of Special Masters, has “CONCEDED” on one vaccine related lawsuit that thimerosal in vaccines exacerbated a child’s preexisting developmental delay and will be awarding settlement damages.

So, it sound like kids not in preschool or daycare this fall won't be required to get it? (not that that makes it ok - I'm just wondering how much hassle it will be for me since neither of my children is in care/school yet)

I need this like I need a hole in my head. It's bad enough that I don't want to put her into daycare - let alone being told what I have to inject into her.

Perhaps you should get a religious exemption.

This new mandate is so over-the-top, it makes my blood boil.

I'm reading things about religious exemptions being denied... which is absurd on the basis of discrimination.

I am looking into this though as this makes my blood boil as well.

LittleMe you don't have to if your kids aren't in daycare.

It's up to the particular daycare whether they make it hard to get the exemption.

Now is the time to put pressure on your legislators to pass a philosophical exemption!! I have a letter by the NJAICV that you can send to your local legislators. We need more of them to support it. If you want the info contact me or join the yahoo group, the file/info is on there.

It has me livid. It will also sorta force people I don't want to know I do not vax to see we have an exemption. BS. How invasive.

hing is my oldest will be in grade 6 nest year and she has sadly been up to date since age 4. The same year our beliefs changed. So my youngest has hada an exemption of file for years, not her. I hope they don't try anything...

This issue got me so heated that I registered as a user! I have been lurking here as a guest for two years. So this is officially my first post at MDC.

Please continue to contact the Governor, local officials, and the Health Commissioner. I did and all offices that I contacted were still interested in receiving my feedback on this (ridiculous) mandate.

I am selectively vaxing, and this is getting ridiculous. I would never have my child get a flu shot. Here's an interesting question though...the flu season starts in late October/November while school starts in September. Are they going to suspend all the students who don't get the vax mid-year? How much time are they going to give the students to comply?

You don't have to get anything if your kids aren't enrolled in school or daycare. Vax laws only pertain to that. It's not a law anywhere to vax tiny babies and toddlers on whatever schedule the doctors offices and health departments are pushing. They'd just like you to think it is. And of course when it comes to school, there are exemptions available.
