I ordered a FB package (12 FB, 15 moe-type inserts, 4 joey-bunz) and it's arriving today. Do I have to wash everything first? Do I have to "break them in" somehow before I use them? Thanks. I'm really excited to start CD!

Yes you should wash them all first. the fb and moe type inserts should be good to go after 1 hot wash/dry. but the joey bunz will need a few washes

Yep

Wash the dipes first on hot and dry them on hot too. For hemp what I do (and it might be overkill but it has worked well for me)

boil for 20 min in a pot with some dawn dish soap (to remove oils)
rinse well
boil again for 10 min and rinse (just to get the dawn out)
Wash very hot in your washing machine with a tiny touch of soap.
Dry on hot.

Also, make sure to always use just a tiny amount of washing soap or you may get a build up which will cause all sorts of problems.

Good luck.

I LOVE my FB with Joey Bunz inserts and have had great luck with them.

I usually don't want hemp inserts with my FB during first few wash. I usually wash the hemp 2-3 times by themselves before throwing in with FB. Normally it's 3 washes to get rid of all the oil in hemp.

Also, you'll want to throw the FB into the dryer for this wash only. It seals the PUL so that you don't end up with leaks at the seams. After the initial wash, I always line dry the FB and throw the inserts into the dryer.

Ditto this except I do normally boil my hemp before washing it. We love our FBs!

I was advised to wash and dry the inserts 4 to 5 times to get them really thirsty. I ran the FB through the first wash with the inserts, then threw them in the dryer to seal the PUL, then kept washing and rewashing the inserts.

I just recently started too - you will have so much fun!!

Dumbest question EVER: do I use any detergent with the FB/inserts when I'm washing them the first time? Or do I just wash them with hot water? I just got them from UPS and I'm so excited!

boil the jb with dawn dish soap as suggested by the previous poster

just don't do what i did to my new dozen bumgenius yesterday... accidentally washing them in baby soap : How could I be such a dodo? Yesterday, I realized the pump on the baby soap dispenser bottle would be perfect for dispensing just the right tiny amount of Allen's Naturally for my front-loading washer. But I forgot to pump the residual soap out of the pump before sticking it in the Allen's bottle, so I basically washed the BG in the baby soap that was in the pump. major repelling ensued this morning. D'oh! My new BG spent the rest of the day being stripped with hot water and Dawn dish detergent...
