I just received my first kefir grains from a friend and I have a few questions.

What do you use to cover the jar while the kefir is fermenting? And after it is done and strained into another jar, what do you use to cover it?

And, is it ok to blend kefir in the blender, to make smoothies and such? Or does that disrupt the bacteria?

Thanks!

I just use a mason jar with a lid but I don't close it too tightly. And yes, I use a stick blender to make my smoothies. It won't harm the bacteria.

Mine's in a mason jar and covered with a cloth and a rubber band over it while it's fermenting. Once strained, it's in a mason jar with a lid in the fridge. To strain, I use a sprouting screen lid for a mason jar. (the red one)

I make my smoothies in a blender too.
