I want to knit a scarf for practice. I went to the store and got some nice yarn and some needles. I must have been halucinating b/c I swear I read "size 7 needles" instead of what the pattern suggested which was size 10! Argh... would a scarf knitted on size 7 needles be too strange? I can get bigger needles tomorrow, but I was hoping to start it tonight. From what I've read, scarves should be knit on larger needles.

What do you think?

What yarn do you have? Check the label for recommended needle size.

Or else: just make a sample swatch and see how you like the fabric. That's the best gauge of whether or not you need different needles, not what the instructions say.
