She's 10 days old. I went to the ped last Weds and told him she hadn't pooped in 3 days and he told me "well, she's due for one". Now it's been 7 days total.

My memory was that babes could go up to 10 days between, though DD1 was (and is) a daily pooper. But I read online today that the 10-day rule is only for older babes, not newborns.

Now I'm worried and wondering what I can do to help things along. I used a rectal thermometer and acted like I was taking her temp (on suggestion of my doula who's an LPN) to help stimulate. What else? She BFs on demand, pees about 10x (at least) per day and otherwise acts healthy as can be.

...If no poop by tomorrow AM I'm calling the ped.

my baby was going a week between poops at 2 weeks of age and they were solid tootsie rolls. i didn't worry about it. she's now 8 months and poops in the toilet after almost every meal. (we do ec, so both my kids pooped in the toilet, not their pants from very early on. for more on ec, see diaperfreebaby.org

ahhh...good news! My DS is doing the same thing - he is 3 weeks...keeps going 2-3 days between poops. He's gaining well (the main concern) and is peeing all the time - though he is super gassy. You are right that a week is a liittle long for a newborn...our ped. was worried and is keeping close eye on him.

My babe (now 5 months) went only every couple days in the beginning....it got longer to about 5 days in between....then a week was the norm. I thought it was strange, especially at first, my other 2 had pooped several times a day in the beginning.

But it was soft, and he seemed just fine. So I went with it. And about a week or so ago, he started pooping DAILY.

My theory is some babies (like this one) grow so fast in the beginning that they use literally *everything*. Their growth seems to slow a little around this time---well, compared to the newborn! So now he's not 'using' it all.

If there was a problem, you would know. If your baby is happy, smiley, and just not pooping, then it is 'normal' for your baby.

(mine always has been EXTREMELY happy, wakes up in the morning with a smile, never cries unless very tired and hungry...or if I change before I feed, LOL...even when I still counted his age in weeks and he was only pooping once a week.)
