Newborn diapering questions

I am new to this board...

In July I am expecting my second child. I think we are going to try and CD earlier with the dc. I did not start with my dd until she was about 12 months old - due to rashes. We all have very sensitive skin and I think CD may be the way to go with this one.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I would need for a newborn?

Thanks...

So many choices to make! For my nb, we used Proraps NB size with a cpf inside folded in back for a girl. For a boy, I would fold it in front. I liked the Proraps 'cause they have an umbilical cutout and are nice and small. They fit my 6lb dd at birth.
I like fitteds and covers for the newborn stage. This time around I am going with mostly Kissaluvs size 0 and newborn Muttaqin fitteds. Then I have Proraps, Bummis Super Whisper Wraps and Bumpy covers. Then I move to mostly pocket diapers when the baby gets to size medium.
i'm doing flats + covers for my newborn. mine tend on the large side tho so I'm skipping the newborn size
I love the x-small motherease sandy's for newborns. You can use a number of covers with them, I love the airflows and rikki wraps. Kissaluv 0's are a favorite with many who diaper newborns, they weren't very absorbent IME but hold the runny newborn poo in. I really like prefolds with a newborn but they have a learning curve and if you are new to cloth you might try fitteds first and see how it goes. It just depends on what type of diapers you want to use and how much money you can invest in newborn dipes. While most options seems expensive, you can buy them cheaper if they are used and also sell them when your baby outgrows them.
It's so dependent on your baby! We tried a lot of stuff. . . kissaluvs size 0, nannipoo, motherease sandy's xs, pattynaps, bummi sww, proraps, fuzzibunz, wonderoos. . .

DD was tiny, so we didn't/couldn't really use anything for a couple weeks. The first ones to fit were the nannipoos and kissaluvs. At first the kissaluvs rocked, but soon they didn't hold enough. the sandy's didn't fit until close to two months. . . wonderoos have never worked well for us. fb (smalls) started to fit around two months, and are a large part of our rotation now (we can stuff to hold enough so that we only have to change every two hours or so)

I've heard lots of raves about the pattynaps too.

My favorite style was the fitted though, for the newborn stage where they are peeing and pooing all the time.

Have fun, try a few different things to decide what you like best. . .

Its sooooo hard with a NB because you don't know how big and what shape your baby will be and them boom, you need all these diapers. The best suggestion that I can make is to buy a little bit of this and a little bit of that and then maybe go and buy a bunch of what you decide you like and works for your baby right after he/she is born. I bought 24 kissaluv 0's for my DS because I was sure that that would work for us. They didnt work at all for us, he soaked straight through them. I think we used them for 5 days at most. So, I would definitely go with a few different things until you decide what you like.

My son is 4.5 months old and my favourite is prefolds trifolded into covers. Since we trifold I do need more covers but I just find it so easy. We use primarily Bummis SWW. We started with infant size prefolds.
For sensitive skin, I would strongly recommend that you
:

Fitteds with wool covers are a skin-friendly, breathable solution. We had great success with organic Very Baby dipes and organic wool covers with my 3 1/2 month old DS. I would do it exactly the same again for the next babe.

Thanks to everyone for all the great information. I think I am going to just keep my eye on the TP and find a few different things to try before investing in any one type.
