We're expecting baby #2, and since we didn't start CDing our daughter until she was 8 months, I have questions about diapering a newborn. My plan is to use prefolds and covers until our baby can fit into ME one-size diapers, but I'm wondering how easy/hard newborn bf poo is to deal with. When my daughter was a newborn, she pooed all the time. I don't want to buy a sprayer, and I don't want to dunk diapers. With my daughter, I've been able to get most of the poo off the dipes (using tp or a wipe) and then the washing machine takes care of the rest. Should I expect the same thing with a newborn?

Generally you don't need to do much with BF poo-just throw it in the wash and it dissolves away. Once you start getting onto solid foods (or formula?- not sure on that one), you may want to get as much poo off as you can. You can use something like a spatula just for that purpose to scrape it off into the toilet. Though personally I *love* my sprayer and don't know what I'd do without it.

I've been CD-ing my 4 month old since he was a few weeks old and I've never done anything to his poo <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/lol.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="lol"><br><br>
I just throw the diapers into the wash with the poo on, and it all comes off in the wash. No problem <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">

You can certainly just wash your diapers (do a cold rinse with no detergent first to rinse off any newborn poo). You may have some staining, though - it seems to depend on your baby and water type. If you want to completely avoid stains, then you may want a sprayer, otherwise enjoy the easy, no rinse routine! Good luck! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="http://www.mothering.com/discussions/images/smilies/smile.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="smile">
