Another thread regarding wool and poop. Should I plan to only use PUL covers during the newborn stage? We are going to be using diaper service diapers the first few months. I'm knitting all these gorgeous wool soakers and now I'm wondering if I should wait to use them....? Just how oozing gooey gross are new baby poops? (First baby!)

Thanks!

Depends so totally on the baby. I've never had this problem with my three, they were all little and often poopers, with the occasional massive explosion. I certainly wasnt washing covers left right and centre, I think we had poop on the covers maybe three or four times during Eliza's first few months AND I only used trifolded prefolds/wraps. No elastic no nothing.

I would exercise caution in the first few days till all the meconium has been passed though. Wouldnt use anything you wouldnt want ruined (cover wise). Diaperwise, I've never found it stained.

As long as you use fitteds under the wool, it shouldn't be a problem. The poop is watery and explosive for sure, but there just isn't that much of it at this early stage, y'know? I'd be more worried when baby is a few months old and producing more volume per poop. I've been using my wool with no problems so far.

I did both. I had some pul incase the wool thing didn't work out. My baby did a little bit of poop with every wet though, she didn't save it all up like she does now at 3 months. So we mostly used the wool in the end. I think it works great, especially if you use use a snappi.

I wasn't going ot do wool at all for the newborn stage but I've got a few XS WoolyBully covers from ElBee and they are wonderful. I do use fitteds under so that could be why there's no leakage onto the covers, but also DS's poops aren't too out of control. I've actually gotten more leaks onto the Bumpy covers than the WollyBully's maybe because they are looser??

I used lots of wool on my ds when he was born. I didn't have much choice for a while! He was born lots bigger than I expected and all I had were nb proraps. I couldn't squeeze him into them at all, and the only other covers I had were small FuzEasys. I used those until I ordered some bigger Bumpy covers. But when those covers came, I found out that I really dug the wool a lot of the time.
We just kept up with the wool!
