newborns found 'disposed' of in Austrian Apt

Warning: this article will make you want to vomit, so I'm not quoting the gist of the article but this comment from the doctor is what I'm also struck by:

From the article:

"Various reasons can lead women into such violent situations that they can't even think straight," said Dr. Roswith Roth of the University of Graz's Institute of Psychology.

"When a mother kills a child right after its birth, it's clear that she does so because she sees no other way out," Roth told the Austria Press Agency. "There is still an enormous amount of ignorance in how to prevent such things"

AND

"Although the province of Styria where Graz is regional capital has had a program in place since 2001 allowing women who don't want to keep their babies to give birth anonymously, women's advocates called for greater attention to their plight.

"The climate in which a woman must deal with an unplanned pregnancy is not very supportive in Austria," said Sylvia Groth, who heads a women's health center in Graz."

What else do we need to be doing to protect these babies and help mothers feel like they have options? This woman was terrified of losing her partner who claimed he didn't even know she was pregnant FOUR TIMES!! How can you be living together and not know?

Ok. This is weird. Wasn't there a story about someone who did this a year or two ago (but not in Austria)?

Quote:
and a third -- a newborn girl -- was placed in a paint bucket that was filled with cement to conceal the remains.
Quote:
Her partner allegedly told police he was unaware of her pregnancies and insisted he played no role in either the slayings or the hiding of the bodies.
I find this nigh on impossible to believe he had no inclination of FOUR pregnancies and births? Please.

This is so sad. I honestly don't know what can ever be done about women who are so invested in their partners, that they kill babies. They've obviously got some wiring problems. Normal women do not think that way.

I was struck by how differently those in charge of investigating spoke of the woman.

I'm not saying its good, or bad. I'm just saying how differently I found it to sound.

What's the story on her birth control (well, obvious lack thereof), I wonder? And what are reproductive choices like in Austria? Sounds like they're not too good.

Doesn't look too good. Austria is famously conservative, also quite Catholic.

Re: abortion - legal up until the third month if carried out by a doctor & with prior counselling (no law, unlike eg France, on how long a gap there must be between the counselling & the procedure).

Quote:
On the other hand, in Austria there are no provisions regarding the actual implementation of a termination, nor is there a regulation on the allocation of costs. In consequence, outside Vienna there are very few doctors or hospitals offering abortions to the general public. This means that women outside the capital are still reliant on the "goodwill" of the doctors. Further, the costs of termination are not covered by the national health system (just as little as contraception costs).

that is sick.WTF is this women's problem. Does Austria have the death penalty?I am sorry flame me and critize me all you want,I hope she frys or dies. Either way she'll go to hell.
Austria does not have the death penalty.

As far as I know, it's only the United States in the west that has the death penalty.

Yes. She obviously is very sick. And frying her is not going to bring those poor babies back to life or do anything about the social problems that create these kinds of horrible situations.

Revenge is a waste of money and energy. The question for Autria, and for us because we have similar problems here in the US, is: what are we going to do about the FUTURE?
This whole story is very, very sad.

I just wanted to give share something positive though. Last week on the news I heard that a woman dropped off a newborn baby to a local fire station. AZ has the safe baby act so she can not face any penalties for dropping her baby off at a safe place. I commend that anonymous woman. It took a lot of courage to do that, and I'm so glad that the new system is working. A life saved.

Because adoption isn't the opposite of infantcide.. And even though it pains you, and you went through such a long period to conceive your much wanted daughter.. It honestly ISN'T about people with problems concieving..

It's sad and wrong, but people around the world don't have the same reproductive options we have in America.. Or at least have for now..

See now, I would say that it isn't about "reproductive choices" either, since people here have also killed their newborns. Infanticide is not an alternative to birth control or abortion. There are plently of women with no access to either who still don't kill their newborns.

IMO, it's about mental illness.
