Doesn't look like they are planning a UC, or did I miss something?

Isn't her dad a psychotherapist or something? I don't think he's an MD.

ETA: Dad is a clinical psychologist.

yes yes, I knew there would be comments. The fact that she's getting her father and mother to 'deliver' the baby is pretty interesting to me. Though it may not be "unassisted childbirth", it doesn't say anywhere that she would birth in a hospital, especially if her dad isn't a 'doctor'.

so homebirth with her mom and dad is UC.

get it?

I saw this on Perez, and of course he was all "OMG does he know how to give an epidural??" I'm not really sure what to make of the whole statement, I guess time will tell.

Humph... I find this statement rather amusing.

It also says that her father 'delivered' younger daughter Antonia Kidman's fourth child, Sybella Ann, last year. Interesting.

I bet she just said she only wants her parents (and perhaps her dh) present at the birth, and of course that was misconstrued as her parents would be DELIVERING the baby. Because, you know, a woman can't do it by herself, so ONE of the people she plans on having present MUST be the person "delivering" the baby.

its a variation of uc, as the dad is not a doctor trained to 'deliver' babies. mom is not a doctor either.

Interesting. I wonder if celebrates began true UCs if it would become a normal variation quicker? But then again, I can't see most celebrities wanting to do something without looking good or having some drug relief. I guess it is just hard to visualize them as real people.

But, if she really does intend to have her father deliver her baby, I think it is great. It was the greatest gift I could give my own father. And I know our relationship was stronger for it.

I'm pretty sure it is just a rumer actually, but the idea is 'not normal' to most folks. You should read the comments on that website I linked..

But she's an RN. Sounds like a medical professional to me. *shrug*

but do you think that a hospital would allow a RN and a psychologist to 'deliver' a baby at the hospital\? No. They would be somewhere else.

You're missing my point.

I think several of us here would agree that by having those people there, whether they are her parents or not, it would not be an UC.

This I agree with. My Mom is an RN and my father had a history (several years before) of being an EMT/paramedic. That is why I never considered my first births with them "assisting" as UC.

To me, if anyone "assists" in any medical type fassion, checking, catching, or anything, then it is not really a UC.

I know it's not technically an UC, but it is a variation of it, IMO. Why does it matter so much if it qualifies as UC? It is 'abnormal' enough to be scoffed at by the majority of people (like the comments on the CBB)..

Well, it says that they also "delivered" her sister's baby, who was born in the hospital. So maybe all it means is that they're going to catch the baby.
