DS has been sleeping in his own bed for a while but recently he was sick and then molars came through so he has been spending more time back in bed with me. Now he refuses to sleep in his own bed and cries for me if we try to put him to bed in his own room The problem is he is violent at night. He hits, headbutts, scratches etc.
I wake up with nail marks all over my face and haven't had a full night sleep in weeks (everything is a blur, forgot how long).
He usually has one waking between midnight and 2 where I can calm him down but holding him. He cries but doesn't seem to completely wake up. The horror starts around 4 when he whines, cries, screams, tosses from one end, of the bed to the other, headbutts , kicks and hits me and otherwise hurts me. I try to calm him down but it does not work. He does not seem to be completely awake but more awake than the earlier waking. DH hasn't slept in bed for over a week since he can't deal with it at all.

Any ideas what is going on and what I can do to stop it. I am currently 6 months pregnant and can't have him in bed if he continues this.

For what it is worth is is also super clingy towards me during the day. THis is a newer development. I have special alone time set up for him every day and at bed time. Weekends we try to do something together as well but at some point the house needs to be cleaned and dinners cooked.

Is this a realted to a developmental stage?

Sounds like a little one who's really in pain and discomfort and needs his mommy. Is he nursing, nursing is the magic wand during teething! If we as grown ups were in that much pain we would thrash in bed too and not want to be alone. He wants to feel safe, this sensation is new and scary to him. It's hard on you, but it's harder on him. It will pass... rough nights are all part of the mommyhood journey.
