Wow - my 18 month old son pees so so much at night time in bed - he goes to bed around 7:45pm and wakes around 6:30. His diaper is so wet, sometimes he pees through it and onto clothing. My question is - what night time disposable diaper is really good? I don't want to wake him around 10pm when we go to bed - he's sleeping so soundly and would just cry and cry and have a hard time going back to sleep. I tried Huggies Overnites but he's inbetween size 4 and 5 and I bought 4s (they were out of 5s) and the dumb things don't hold anymore than regular disposables. Ugh!
He has milk right before bed and I can't cut that out....but I know all this pee isn't just from milk.
Thanks!

Well, I know that lots of the ladies around here have found great over night solutions in cloth diapering. We haven't moved into that just yet, as our DD sleeps 13 hours at night and I have yet to find anything that can hold her longer than 4 hours!
:

BUT, what does seem to help is using a very absorbant doubler insider her disposables at night. I put a fleece-topped hemp doubler inside her 'sposie (pampers cruisers) and it will hold her until morning--she is SOAKED, but I like that its the nice fleecy doubler on her buns and not the 'sposie--its a compromise for us, as I would like to eventually get her into cloth at night too. SHe does very well for her naps in a good hemp fitted with a doubler and a wool cover.

I'm sure there will be other great suggestions for you to try too! GL!

Well, as this is a cloth diapering board, you might not get a lot of help.
When we used disposable diapers, we always used Pampers. But we still had a lot of leaks. With the cloth system we have now, no leaks.

We always had leaks with Pampers, too... May I ask what system you have now Sharon? Our system (CPF+Hemp prefold in 1/3s + fleece liner + Dappi pull on) works great for 7 - 8 hours but I don't think it would hold 13

We always had leaks with sposies too. They just aren't that great. A samual's soaker or any fittted with a fleece doubler and a joey bunz works for us under a stacinator wool cover. Does 11 hours reliably.

hi leslie,
I've got some disposie experience for you. I'm convinced that "overnite" dipes are just a marketing ploy
What if you tried just the next size up in the reg. Huggies? When DS was wearing huggies, he would wear a size 4 daytime and size 5 nightime. He's now in cloth - no more wet nights or red behinds.
Good luck,

My daughter pees a lot at night too, and sleeps 13-14 hrs. When I had her in disposables I used reg pampers. If she was on the edge of a size I would move her up. Now that I have her in cloth I found the only thing to work at night is a wool soaker, I like both the aristocrats, and the bumpy soaker, with a premium prefold and an infant prefold as a doubler snappied together, with a fleece liner on top.

Wow! My son is a heavy soaker, but Huggies Overnites worked perfectly when we were on vacation. I don't know if sposies get any more absorbant than that, though I've heard that tushies makes disposable doublers. We use 4 joeybunz + microfleece liner in a wool cover.

Good luck!!

The name of the board is Diapering not Cloth Diapering. Questions about all kinds of diapering are welcome here and MDCers should not be made to feel less welcome because they are asking a question about disposables instead of cloth.

Thanks for the info - I myself thought this board was for mainly cloth diaper related issues
I am sure the ladies who posted so far thought so also.
I think all who have posted so far have been very nice and helpful trying to give Ivarson some ideas. It was never intended to make any DD momma feel less welcome... We mommas know how complicated Night time diapering can be - using DD OR CD :LOL

It was not my intention to make anyone feel unwelcome. I apologize if I did that. I actually didn't want her to feel bad if she didn't get a lot of responses, as the vast majority of people here use cloth diapers.

Poliana,

I have finally found the ONE thing that makes a huge difference in any system -- wool liners. You can add them to a pocket diaper, underneath a doubler, in between a fitted and a wool cover, etc. The wool liner really forces the soaker to absorb to its FULL capacity. Then it begins absorbing as well, and it can hold a LOT of moisture.

It seems like I always had a little bit of moisture at the legs or the waist no matter how much stuff I put in my DS's diapers. Until I started using wool liners.

If you can crochet, you can make them easily - just crochet the shape of a doubler. But I also think you can buy them at www.punkinbutt.com I got mine at SMJAE before she closed.

HTH!

Thanks to you guys who told me I was still welcome even though I don't CD anymore. I did when DS was born for probably a month; then I couldn't take it anymore. He was so high need and I was home all alone with him; I just couldn't keep up with the mess and there is no cloth diapering service near Milwaukee. Hopefully he'll be potty trained soon enough.

Unless you can learn to change him without waking him up (I've been able to pull it off twice in 4 years!) you could try what my SIL does: she folds a washcloth in thirds and lays it in a Huggies ultratrim and says it's the only thing that keeps her from changing their bed each morning.

Good luck!
