Nighttime Diapering help! And pocket stuffing question.

I'm pretty new to the CD scene and still trying to find an effective nighttime solution. I've been using pockets at night - mostly Happy Heinys although I also have 1 Wonderoos and 1 FB.

I usually stuff them with 2 microterry towels or 1 microterry towel and 1 Joey Bunz. A few times I've tried other slight variations on this, but it seems like Leo has soaked through to his clothes about 2/3 of the time, regardless of what I try!

My first question about stuffing pockets is, do you try to stuff the width of the pocket or just the middle? I've just been stuffing the middle, maybe this is our problem?

I really don't want to have to buy anything besides what we have. I feel like I should be able to find a solution that works, but if I have to buy something else, I guess I will.

And maybe pockets aren't the answer? Should I try something completely different, i.e. fitteds?

Here's what we have:

1 FB
1 Wonderoos
5 HH

4 Kissaluvs Fitteds
6 Kissaluvs Contours
Infant prefolds
Reg. prefolds
Premium prefolds

Green Earth baby PUL covers
Stacinator wool stretch covers

1 Joey Bunz insert
Lots of microterry towels

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I am new too, but I will share!

HH's leak for us- but we have prints.

FB with two Joey Bunz work all night for us. Never leak. But not as breathable as I like.

We also sometimes stuff our pockets with the prefolds for night- that fills the whole diaper!

At night, we prefer to use fitteds with a doubler and a wool cover (we also have a stac wool stretch cover) for breathability reasons-

I just ordered more Joey Bunz hemp inserts myself.
Thanks, JoyAnne. That's helpful!

Anyone else? Anyone?
I think you need to stuff for the whole width. I use the MOE micro-terry inserts which of course fit perfectly. Also prefolds too. I think you may need more absorbancy than just micro terry towels for at night. I know that people use 2 and 3 joey bunz at night. Big diaper butt, but absorbant.
nak

stuff the whole width or it will just pour out the sides ...this is especially true with wonderoos ... inserts shift around inside the diaper and if they shift away from where the pee hits it will have nothing to soak into and just take the path of least resistance right into the bed sheets.
I've been going through this too. I have found a great solution for us, though I had to buy more fluff:

I sized up in the FBs (usually ds is a med, so I bought larges
I stuff it with a Cotton Babies insert which came free with the FBs and one or two JBs

A big diaper butt, but hey, the sheets are dry.

I also just bought an Aristocrat which I have heard is good at night.

Definitely stuff the wholle diaper!

Great... thanks very much for the feedback. Here's hoping for success tonight!
My son is a heavy night wetter and I stuff his Fuzzi Bunz with a microfiber insert and then a hemp doubler folded in half and stuffed just in the front of the diaper. This has worked great for us and reduces bulk between the legs.
I use a happy heiney solid stuffed with a micro and a joey bunz. If the hh are not clean, then i will use a medium fuzzi bunz with a wonderful insert. These two systems work well for us. Wonderoos are not very reliable for us at night. The fit at the thigh is just not snug enough. I always make sure the insert covers the entire width of the pocket.
I tend to use FB's at night. When DD was younger there were nights that I stuffed her diap with 2 joey bunz and a micro terry insert. For a while now I just use on jb and one micro terry insert and we have had no leaks.

HTH

Forgot to mention that DD is 14 mos now.

My solution may not be popular but we do not have leaks. at all.

A prem pf with preemie trifolded inside or a toddler pf with a infant trifolded in. A pair of wool shorts goes over it all. my 'nurses all night because he's too busy to get his fill during the day' son doesn't even leak with this combo.
We use HH (or ella's pockets) with 3 joey bunz. Super Soaker here...

you can try 2 inserts like joeybunz in the FB and let your baby sleep in wool shorts. that is the only thing that keeps DD dry at night.

Your stash sounds a lot like mine. So far my favorite nighttime solution is the stuff the FB with an insert (we have only the cotton babies one that came with) but put the whole thing on OVER a Kissaluvs contour (we don't have any fitteds *yet*). I think the fleece still pulls wetness into the liner, so she isn't waterlogged and we haven't had a leak yet. FWIW I started doing it that way because the fleece alone made her sweat incessantly, and I never was sure about the poly thing anyway. HTH!
