Nighttime -- WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!?!?!

Ok, so in searching for a night time solution, i have lovingly stumbled upon fitteds and wool. I love love love them both.
But, I just can't figure a way to make this easier.

Just about every morning before actually waking up my DD poops. She poops so much that it goes through the fitted and onto the wool cover. EVERY and I mean EVERY morning I am spot cleaning at least 3 square inches of poo spots out of the light colored wool inner. I love my few wool pieces... what can I do to make using them easier???

Do I have to switch to Fuzzi Bunz? Do I need to switch fitteds?

Do I have wrap my fitted with a sposie and then put the wool on over it??? (please, say no, please say no, please say no.)

Maybe try using a fitted diaper in the next size up??? Or use a liner of some sort covering the entire inside of the cover? Sorry... no real help. HOpe you figure something out.
My guess would be either that the diaper is just too saturated so the poop leaks out or it is too small.
hmmm... can you catch her before the poop and pop her on the potty? It's a drag now, but your work now will pay off down the road. (This is what I tell myself every morning as I drag ds to the potty for his huge morning pee.) xoox pam
Hmmm, thank you all for helping me trouble shoot.

It could be the fitted. It's a size small which goes up to 20#s (and she's just one snap away from being on the tighest setting). My babe is just hovering between 13-14# though. It is very saturated when she gets up. If she for some reason skips her pre-waking poo the insert is just sopping wet (it's a pocket fitted). Otherwise, after her pre-waking poo it's breastmilk poo on the inner, the insert, the outer fabric and all over my pretty wool cover. I'm sooo tired of cleaning wool every morning. Plus, it's not like I have ton of wool to cycle through.

So do you think perhaps getting more insterts? Right now, I stuff the pocket fitted with a hemp sheet thingie and a doubler. She's not a heavy wetter... I guess she's a heavy pooper though.

Help me solve this mystery...
How trim (I hate that word) is the diaper? For my small fry at night I tend to use a fuller cut in an attempt to contain any surprise movements :LOL
I had this problem occassionally w/ Parker and I just got so sick of it that I started using FB's.

You could experiment w/ different fitteds or go up a size in the ones you are using.

Sorry, I was writing my post while you posted. I didn't think of that. Usually, I'm really tired and trying to sleep as much as possible. (I average about 5-6 hours of very interupted sleep every 24 hours right now... that extra 20 minutes between her pooping and her actually waking up are sooo needed) I'm not sure if I'm willing to give up that last 20 minutes. You see, she's asleep while she's pooping. It's not like she wakes up and then poops. If that was the case, then it would be much easier to put her on the potty, because I'd be awake, too.

It is a trimmer cut, but the poo is going directly out through the back... not escaping from the sides or crotch area at all. (hmm, "crotch" is a word my g'ma uses. Seems like there should be a more current word for that general area... Maybe "Pubis Region"? )
does pooping wake her up? i used to keep a little potty in the bed.

FB's do seem so reliable. I have a IRL friend who swears by them. I wonder if I could try one of hers. I just really like wool so well for night... well, except for my problems with it! :LOL

Ok. I'm going to ask to borrow one of her FBs and some inserts and try it out. Thank you.
Pamela, that's kind of the weird thing, the poo doesn't wake her up. She's actually an AWESOME sleeper. It's her older brother that has sleep challenges. That is a GREAT idea about keeping the potty in our bedroom though. I'll bring one in to see if I can catch her sometime.
No matter what Emma has on (fitted, pocket, AIO, prefold), her big massive BF poops always shoot up the back of her diaper when she is laying on her back. I think it is the force of the explosion that squishes it so far up her back. LOL! Almost every time she has her BIG poop, which is just a few times a week luckily, there is always some that escapes out of the back waist. She did have one of these lovely poops in a sposie once...let's just say I had a full load of laundry to do after that one.

Amy, isn't that crazy how sposies never keep that in!?!? My son was a up the back shooter. Cicely is just a right through the fitted type of baby... when pooing in her night dipe. She really doesn't have too much trouble keeping the poo in otherwise. I mean, she had an escape last week, but not before or since. BTW -- your kids are georgous!!!
Oh, Claire - it's so hard when you are getting so little sleep! As for the night-time thing, I don't think you are doing anything wrong. If the diaper inside the cover is fitting snugly on the waist and thighs and is absorbent then it's just one of those things unfortunately. I really do believe your answer is to save your wool for daytime use if you don't want to keep having to wash it like that. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful.

Our dd's are around the same size and weight. OC used to poop a little every 10 mins or so, but now she tends to save it up too. thankfully not at night. I sometimes use PUL in the mornings until it's all over. I have luck with a small Baby Soft wraps or a Sugarpeas size 1 done up snugly, with any kind of cover over it. This may just be luck though. We have had our fair share of messes lately.

Ugh, sorry I couldn't offer a better suggestion. I don't know how the fb would do with the bf poo. It might gape from the stuffing and the fleece might not be as absorbent as a good fitted to hold the waste that is more solid than pee, but not as solid as poop, if you know what I mean. It could make things worse. What have you got in the way of fitteds?

Thank you Oceanone -- as far as fitteds go I have 3 Darling Diaper Pocket Fitteds for night and three various fitteds for day. I've tried a FCB Night Light at night, but it had the same result.

Now, the other covers that I have besides wool are some Bummis Whisper wraps, but they leake when left on over night. I also have some heavily used ProWraps, but they don't fit her -- too loose in the belly or too tight in the thighs. The ProWraps don't leak when done tight enough in the belly, but then she has angry red marks on her legs by morning.

I don't know. Maybe I should look into borrowing a PUL wrap from someone. Is that really a night option? I didn't know it was.

Oh, oh, also I have 3 Very Baby AIOs that I got off the TP. I've heard those could work for overnight. That might be my saving grace. Gosh, I hope they come soon now!
what about a fleece cover? I used a stacinator fleece and it seemed to work really well and you just pop it in the washer, unlike the wool. I now use FBs at night since DS doesn't poop at night anymore.

good luck!
Thanks, lisa. THat's a good idea. Ok, so my ideas for equipment changes so far are:
1. Perhaps a different Fitted.
2. Fuzzi Bunz
3. PUL cover
4. Fleece cover

Hmmm, I wonder which one to start with. I don't have access to any except for a Fuzzi Bunz that I could borrow if my friend could spare it (our babes are in the same size). Alright, I'll ask around for help from my IRL friends.

Thank you all so much for your help. Any other ideas?
When I first using cloth, I fell into my nighttime system and I still use it since it is so good. I'm not sure about the availability right now, but I use TotsBots diapers with a Snappi. I tuck a JB under the soaker and a microtopped doubler on top for dryness. I use this with my wool. My son is a super wetter. He occasionally poops earlier than normal and it has contained it just fine. I used to use Red Rap which is a fleece cover w/ Aplix. Superb combination. But I found that if I can up the absorbancy of the diaper, I can use whatever I want on the outside.

ETA: www.betterforbabies.com is where you can read about these. And I am selling two of my Red Raps size 2. I have 4.
