I would definitely wait until after the trip. Your baby might really need some extra comforting when his world literally turns upside down and the best way to do that (at least with my kids) is to nurse.

I'm pretty certain you can find some good information on how to gently night-wean at Dr. Sears' website or at Kellymom.
