This is not going to be super helpful, so think of it as a bump...
I've never used Nikkis, but I hear they are really trim, so I personally would not be inclined to buy them for use over fitteds. I hope someone else here can tell you for sure how they would fit over fitteds, though.
I have used them before, and I find that they did run trim/small. I would not use them with fitteds unless you size up. The inner liner does a good job of holding the diaper in place. I did have a problem with some of the velcro/aplix/touchtape turning back and so it wouldn't co-operate. I got mine used though, so maybe they were at the end of their time. HTH!
I have cotton ones. They work just fine. The best place to get them is http://www.babybunz.com/index.html. There are a couple of downsides to them. One is if you have a super soaker the cover gets a bit damp if the diaper is soaked, not a good over night cover, but a great daytime cover. Also they run a little big. They are a very trim cover.
I had the breathable poly ones and some cotton Nikkys with my first. These are very trim and run small- dd was in the 12 month size at 6 months and was not a large baby. They worked as wraps but not over fitteds. Didn't like the cotton ones- but I got these used and they were in pretty bad shape by then.
The cotton Nikkys and Nijis are so breathable, so trim. I LOVED them until I found wool
Yes they do run small. Fit better over prefolds, but if you size up they are fine over fitteds. The nice thing is they really are waterproof - I don't know how but they are! They are the only thing I will use other than wool. And if we are going out and I don't want a diaper butt I use one with a cpf and voila.
