DD has to go in for a filling in the morning and our ped. dentist uses the nitrous oxide. Our last ped. dentist was very against it's use which left me feeling like there were negative effects.

So far I haven't been able to find any info. on this. Does anyone here know more on the subject?

TIA!

My two problems with it are:

(1) generally given by the dentist who is then responsible for both doing the procedure and monitoring anesthesia, which many think is not safe;
(2) it is possible to have a very bad reaction to it. My mom had one as a child, said it was nightmarish and remembers it vividly to date.

Thanks, I think we're going to see someone else. I got a not so great vibe from the guy at the get go. Then I spoke to him today to ask some questions and I felt he got a bit defensive...we were 'disconnected' and he didn't call me back...strike 2.
Then a friend of mine asked her friend who is a dental hyg. and she said her reservations were that; the dentist was probably older, impatient, lacks experience with being gentle while giving the nov. shot, didn't have great bed side manners and thus might use too much to ensure the patient is 'compliant'. That right there hit home especially when this woman knew nothing of the dentist, but described him to a T.

So, yeah, I'll be searching other dentists in our area tomorrow!
