Ladies, come-on dont let me go on feeling sooo old!!!!!
:
Did you know that perimenopause can start in your thirties??? i am going to be 36 in two months
and I am feeling like im falling apart. Im investigating perimenopause and finding that most likely im pretty much there. still have to call my mid-wives and talk to them. Im a mess today, tonight I broke a beautiful picture on our dining room wall when I flipped out and threw my slipper!
:
< see how emotional i am. Im just really looking for support and empathy. I've always had severe pms but my cycle is changing now and Im terribly irritable and plus, I've been having night sweats for months and months.

Laura, Don't panic, the same thing happened to me...I got it to subside, got my cycles regulated by taking red raspberry and some other changes. See what your midwife recommends. I was really stressed out when this happened to me...how are other things going in your life right now? There is a really good book called What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Pre-menopause (it's written by Dr. John Lee for women age 30 to 50)--it could be caused by toxins in your environment. I switched to all natural cleaning products, also try to eat all organic food and it has made a huge difference.

big belly, Oh i am "concerned" not worried--- dont think this can be sub-sided. the way i see it if it's time it's time. I heard from someone to stay away from that book you mentioned since it's studies arent valid. I bought the one from dr. Northrup. she seems to really get the whole thing. it could be my adrenals or my thyroid. I made an appt today and hope to get my levels checked soon. Im trying to read up so I know what to look for in the way of levels and all. I want to approach this holistically.
Also, I've been eating mostly organic (say 85%) for about 6 years now and do not use any toxic cleaners.
thanx for the reply.

Laura,

Looking at thyroid is a great idea. My sil has thyroid issues; she's managed to find a holistic dr. to work with her on it. There's a great book on the subject, but unfortunately I'm blank on the name....

I do think that as we age our body recovers from various assaults, such as chemical toxins, less easily. I have issues with various foods like corn syrup, corn starch, corn chips. I notice the aches and pains more now that I'm older...if I eat corn syrup I'll wake up the next day with aching joints, feeling like I have arthritis. But I don't consider these arthritis-type symptoms as a sign of age so much as a sign of eating junk I shouldn't.

Good luck finding drs. you can work with. We've been very fortunate on that end; dh has a talent for finding drs. that are open-minded wherever we move (of course, they'd *have* to be open-minded to put up with us, LOL!).

Queen Gwen -- I have noticed the same ache in my joints when I eat the wrong things. Had not traced it specifically to corn syrup, though. I will observe more closely next time. I am also becoming more sensitive to toxiins in food and cleaning products as I get older. As for perimenopause, I think I was beginning to experience it right before I conceived my second baby who is now three months old. My ovulation and menstuation cycles were definitely irregular. Now I am nursing so when I start menstruating again, who knows what will happen? Will I be nursing when I hit menopause?
And 36 is NOT old. Neither is 41, which I am today (my birthday). I don't even consider my 91 year old mother in law old because her spirit is so young. (How can she be old when she is teaching her new beau to play tennis?). Maybe perimanopause is a good reminder to take care of ourselves. Not just eating right but getting exercise that makes us feel good and taking some time to be alone and to to flesh out our dreams a bit. It is a good idea to seek out some good older women to be our role models, also.

<opens the door and peers around>

"Gee, I really need to get out of Activism a little!"

I remember all my friends telling me how their pms subsided after they had babies (in their 20s), I couldn't wait..................
Had my first child at 35 and no cycle for 13 mos after that.
OMG! I could not believe the change!! NOT for the better, for the worse. Mood swings like mad, cramps out of this world.

It has only worsened. I'm 44 now and have in the past year have been learning from Susun Weed. Her book NEW Menopausal Years the Wise Woman Way: Alternative Approaches for Women 30 - 90 is fabulous! Has helped me tremendously. I want to embrace this phase of my womanhood, not run from it.

If I don't exercise regularly I become as stiff as a board. Drinking rasberry leaf tea from Mother Tea Co has helped to clear my bladder problem (had a bad one). I drink nettle and oatstraw infusions a few times a week. And I do energy work to balance my body. I am reading Woman Heal Thyself in order to learn some of the pressure points.

I am woman, hear me roar!!!!

Not exactly peri-menopause, but aging---

I started having heel inflammation and bone spurs around age 40. Started making sure I wore really comfortable shoes.

Then, I suddenly started to have such severe leg/foot pain about 2 years ago. Finally my feet and ankles, esp my left one, swelled up like balloons, and the pain was in my entire foot and up my leg approaching my thigh. I got bruises on top of my foot near the toes. I was, WTF?

Went to dr. Got x-rays in case something was broken or sprained. Nope. Got ultrasounds, nothing. Went to osteopath. By this time the pain was subsiding. He had nothing to tell me.

Finally consulted my healing books more deeply, and discovered it was most likely a nightshade and citrus sensitivity. Cut out tomatoes, eggplant and zucchini, potatoes, citrus of all kinds, and carrots and aparagus as well. No more pain and swelling.

After about a year, I was able to reintroduce carrots and potatoes with no problems. Still can't do tomatoes or citrus or eggplant family. I really miss tomatoes! I do do a squeeze of lemon on my fish, and i get all chopped up on the inside of my lips from it, but no foot pain.

Just this month, my sister, who is one year younger than me, started getting severe dizzy spells. After drs visits, tests, , was it sugar imbalance? inner ear? even an MRI, she finally had the suggestion to cut out caffeine (3 cups of coffee or tea a day). She cut back to just one cup in the morning and no more dizziness.

Funny how normal things like typical (even seemingly healthy) foods and drinks will be fine for you, then one day, your body freakin freaks out over them!
