WHAT!!!! OMG!! My dh works a lot of overtime as well and that would totally screw us! Geez, we work more than almost any other country and now they want us to work even more for less $$ what CRAP!!! **edits own post**

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

http://www.aflcio.org/yourjobeconomy...ns07012003.cfm

http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/...ertime.pay.ap/

HOLY %*&#$%*%$^%$^%$$#!!!! I had no idea this was happening! Where have I been?

I am sending hate mail to my senators now and letting them know how likely I am to vote against them should they even *LET* this get passed much less vote for it. My congressman is a Democrat and is probably already opposing it but my Senator is a Republican

it is funny, Republicans and Democrats are so similar it is almost always labor issues that decide my vote.

WHAT ON EARTH IS HE THINKING?!?!!? I mean my goodness! The economy is crappy the way it is, people are losing jobs, factories are shutting down, maoney is super tight and now Bush wants to return the workforce in this country to swaet-shop unfair labor and undo years of hard work, blood and tears of the past who literally gave their lives so that workers were compensated fairly! Oh no, I WILL NOT sit by and watch this happen!
Ok, I need email, snail mail addresses for anyone I can pester about this! Does anyone have the address to write the president himself????

Oh, I am steamed! Forget the occupation, forget the war, the WMD, the billions of dollars he wants to rebuild Iraq, he is trying to destroy this country's working families! Obviously Bush is just jealous the as President he does not get overtime and makes less than many civilian jobs.

Its bad enough that working families have crappy health care that costs too much and helps too little, bad enough that it is an exercise in aggrivation of a family like mine living paycheck to paycheck to even consider buying a home but then to add this kind of insult to it is too much. Next thing he will try to do is return the country to slavery, forcing people to work for NO pay, reducing the minimum wage to .50 an hour and using big ticket issues like war and WMD to cover up his sneaky attacks on the beathing heart of the nation he is running (into the ground, that is)

And to think that 10 minutes before reading this I was rejoicing that, as a contractor, I am paid time-and-a-half for anything over 40 hours per week (80 hours per pay period). ARGH!

I sent an email to Dubya, and my senators. Of course, I live in a very Repulican state, but still!

You ingrates should be happy to even HAVE a job. After all, what's good for the corporations is good for America. And anyone who says otherwise is obviously anti-American and should be rounded up by Ashcroft & Co. and placed in detention camps!

The scary thing is that, I can imagine a time, perhaps not in the too-distant future, when the above might in fact become true.

This matter has been bothering me for quite a while.

Esp in a time of higher unemployement, the last thing you want to do is encourage businesses to fire employees, which is exactly what this would encourage. If you don't have to pay overtime, then why not have to 60 hr workers (and so, only two sets of bennies) then 3 40 hr workers. If anything, you need to increase the *penalties* for encouraging/requireing overtime. Oh, and of course, make it so only "real" salaried employees are salaried (that is another fun scam, call everyone who works at your place an assistent manager, then make them work 60 hours salaried w/no overtime pay).

Bush is trying to remove the extra war/danger/hazard pay to deployed soldiers that are in N Korea and Afghanistan. You can only get the differential if you are in Iraq.

The excuse for the OT law changes is that it will bring up the take home pay of very, very low paid, unskilled workers. But why do they have to strip it for others? A nurse almost always has the ability to delegate to LVNs (LPNs) and nurses aides. Because of that, the hospital can classify the nurse as a "supervisor" and take away the OT provision. Since many hospitals in areas where there are nursing shortages force them to work OT in bad respiratory seasons, it is a source of cheap labor for the counties and corporations. (They force them to work saying the cannot "abandon" their patients or they will be turned in to the state board. Some work over 60 hours a week.)

Not paying overtime provides a cheap labor force for corporations. It will save them Billions of dollars at the expense of middle income and poor workers. This is another "thank you" gift from Bush to his corproate contributors.

What gets my goat is that working people will vote for evil Republicans against their own best interest because the only messages they hear are the lies that LIBERALS WILL TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS!!! or LIBERALS ARE BABY KILLERS!!!

Republicans know their economic policies are only good for the rich, but they hide behind lies, name calling and finger pointing. I hate to see people lose their overtime pay, but how many of those same people are responsible for voting Republicans into office?

Anybody who is not already rich is going to be worse off economically with Republicans in charge. That's just the way it is.

Should Dubya and his cadres at the DOL overcome Harkin et al., there will be court challeges to the proposed regulation changes.

Don't stop worrying yet! There just appears to be a couple of roadblocks put up. Not sure if its enough to retract the proposed new regulations. Phone, fax, email your reps., senators etc.

That said, I wonder how much campaign fodder can be made out of this bid by the current administration, Republicans and big business to take more $$$ out of people's pockets. Juxtoposion this bid with the "tax cut" that put how much back in people's pockets?

Utter stone hypocrisy.
