Hello and thanks for reading and helping ))

I went off birth control four months ago, my husband and I are very excited to start our family! But to my dismay i have not yet had a period! I have done a bit of research for ways to help my cycle return to normal; however, nothing seems to be incouraging! I have been taking a multivitamin, Vit B complex, evening primrose, dong quai and black cohosh everyday for 3 months now and still nothing...Should I stop taking these? Is there anything else i can take? Any suggestions would really help! It is so frustrating!
Oh! and i;m not pregnant, i've done several tests all negative! Thanks again...

I've heard it can take up to a year to get the birth control out of your system. Even after you get a period it can be irregular and without ovulation for a few months until your cycle gets back on track. However, four months seems like a long time to me. I'd recommend charting just so you can tell if you ever do ovulate (check out fertilityfriend.com for basic instructions and the book Take Charge of Your Fertility for detailed explanations) and checking with your doctor just in case. What were your cycles like before birth control?

my cycles were very regular (which is why i am suprised that things seem so out of wack). And when you say charting... I'm not really sure what i'm supposed to chart because i haven't had a period. Is it my temperature? My doctor said i need to wait a year befor he will do anything, but these past four months seem like an eternity, i can't imagine waiting a year!

What type of BC were you on? I dont' have any experience with the pills, but I was on Depo before TTC. It took about 5 months before my cycle returned. That was in April. We are still TTC.

Do you mean while on the pill or before you started it 10 years ago?

How old are you?

Are you sure you're not pregant. Have you had a blood test to confirm this? Some women don't test positive with pee sticks.

Otherwise, I think you need to discuss this with your care provider.

I don't really remember my peroids 10 years ago, but i don't remember them to be irregular so i'll have to say that they were regular. I'm 27 and lead a healthy fit lifestyle. I'm pretty sure that i'm not pregnant, i've done 10 tests and have no signs of pregnancy and i thought that you could not ovulate unless you have your period? Could i have ovulated? Thanks so much for your help...

You ovulate BEFORE you have your period. If you've ovulated, you can expect to come up either pregnant or have a period approximately two weeks later (hence the two week wait between ovulation and finding out you're pregnant!) Hang in there, I know how hard waiting is! I'm on day 72 and my chart is unclear as to whether or not I've ovulated... BUT I know for sure I'm not pregnant, and I haven't taken any pregnancy tests, so that part is very cool.

I feel your pain! It sucks. I'm just sarting my 6th month of not having a period. I haven't been on bcp since Oct. '06, which I was on for 5 month trying to regulate my cycle after a year of Depo shots.
Call your doctor and tell him you're not menstrating. I wouldn't tell him right off the bat that you're TTC. The 1 year deadline is typical for helping with TTCing, not for missed periods, which could indicate something else. I have to wait 6 months without periods (which is where I'm at right now) and now I have to make an appointment and start getting tested for everything under the sun and probably go on meds. I guess if your doctor still blows you off, even if you then stress the desire to TTC, I would find a new doctor!

Good luck!
