i just started no-pooing. my dd and i swim in our complex's chlorinated swimming pool 2-4 times a week. i have no idea what type of regimen to follow after we swim. i've been using bs/honey, rinse, acv, rinse every other day for regular washing. today after we swam (for the first time since no poo) i just did acv rinse. is this what i should do? anyone have any advice?

I don't have any no poo info about the chlorine after swimming, but my hairdresser told me that if your hair is wet before you go into the pool it absorbs less chlorine. She is also the one who recommended I use bs in place of shampoos to remove hard water residue from my hair. So maybe the bs would work on chlorine too? Do you have light or dark hair? If it is light, you'll have to keep an eye out that the chlorine doesn't turn it green. I would think some extra conditioning when you are in the pool a lot would be helpful to avoid the chlorine drying your hair out.
With what do you condition your hair after swimming?

A past hairdresser recommended not just wetting your hair before swimming, but applying conditioner before swimming. Anyone do this?

YES! I lifeguarded and taught lessons for almost 10 years. I had long, blonde hair at the time and it was almost always crackly and green UNTIL I started soaking it with cold water (cold water closes the hair shaft so it won't absorb as much chlorine) and rubbing conditioner into it prior to entering the water. Don't rinse off the conditioner, the chlorinated water will "slide" right off of it. You probably also need to wear a swim cap. Not the rubber, sticky kind, but the nice slick shiny ones that won't pull on your hair. Or try the soft, cotton ones that will contain your hair but still let water through. Either way you're reducing the amount of chlorinated water that gets to your hair.

Rinse your hair well immediately after swimming with lots of warm water - not hot. Finish with a cool rinse like you would at home, but instead of the ACV you might try rubbing TINY amounts of almod or coconut oil into your hair ends. The chlorine that does get to your hair damages the ends most noticably, so keeping them moisturized is key. Remember, the chlorine didn't make your hair or scalp "dirty", so you aren't trying to remove any oil or dirt, just the chlorine from your hair itself.
