I know this may be a strange request...

I am planning on making a few cards to bring to the hospital with me that say "no shots". I figure that I will have someone put one on the basinette. I am curious if anyone knows where you can get clip art of a syringe with a line through it or something along that line to drive the point home.

Thanks!

You will probably have to make your own. If you go to google and search their images there are a lot of images of needles that you could use.
I have heard of nurses ignoring these cards, though. What would be better is to have someone with the baby at *all* times. Do not let baby out of sight for even a moment.

Oh, also, if you're having a boy, I've heard of people putting baby in a shirt saying "do not circ, do not retract" on it, or even just writing it on baby's diaper.

I JUST made one of these for my friend who had her baby last week. It said "To my wonderful nurses. My name is __________. I'm a breastfed baby! I belong to ________&___________" And then there was clip art of a bottle with a "no" circle over it and a syringe with the same. I had to make my own symbols.

They put it in his bassinet. If you can wait a couple of hours I can send the card to you for reference! You can use the symbols I made if you want.

The nurses at their hospital LOVED it.

just shots? or blood draws too? they usually do a little blood work (PKU + biliruben).

i have seen (work at a hospital) RN's + CNA's ignore signs. I have seen several signs that ask that the baby have no binkie (but the babe is sucking on one anyway).

you or someone in your family/friend should be with baby always to insure something doesn't happen against your will.

I think it also helps to be very vocal about your wishes regarding your baby. The sign is just another way to be sure they know your wishes and they can't feign ignorance.

Yeah, I don't plan on using a sign only, it is just one more way of expressing our wishes. I figure that it can't hurt to tell them as many ways as possible especially since I think that they are just so used to doing some of these things automatically. I thought something with some clip art may be attention getting to remind them.

That's cute! I'd make it larger, though... let them see it a mile away ;-).

You actually should be able to find symbols for "no syringes." They're on most trash cans in areas that use sharps! Syringes have to be disposed of in special sharps containers, so there are signs saying "no sharps" on other containers, and they usually have the symbology. Maybe do a Google Image search on "no sharps"?

I made this one for myself, haven't added text yet. Anyone who wants to use it is welcome to.

Is there a way you can send those so they can be copied/edited? They are great and I'd love to use them.

Thanks.

If you are unable to edit it I can also send you one with the "baby's name here" & "I belong to ____" blank so you can just fill it in!

Sure can Jenn. Could you PM me your email address. I found out it works better to send it as an attachment which MDC doesn't allow me to do.
