Update Dec 15, 2008

Here is the website for NOCIRC South Florida - Broward County
http://www.asnatureintended.info
Thank you so much for your ideas and support, I am looking forward to this and help many babies to come by keeping them WHOLE!

note: I am still working on the video section AND some areas in the Spanish version of the site. Also the 20 min. video will be available with Spanish subtitles really soon!

----------------------------------------------------------

I just got Marilyn Milos packet with DVD. I am very excited about this but I have a few questions and needing of some input.

I have an idea of meeting with my MW and setting up a day of every month to offer pregnant women having baby boys, to watch this DVD and offer information regarding circumcision at her place where she sees all her patients. They already have different days where they give childbirth classes, belly dancing, yoga, natural birth movie viewing, etc. So I thought of the idea of adding a complementary movie viewing for women having baby boys will be a great idea. A lot of these women decide to give birth at the hospital with their mws so I am sure a lot of them think of circing their sons. Also, I can offer these complimentary movie viewing to pregnant women that I see in the streets. I am going to study this packet from beginning to end and that's why I was asking for books recommendations.

Is there anything else I could do or you want to add that will be helpful?

Should I be clear in every invitation that it is about circumcision? What approaches I should take? I am so new to this but you gotta start somewhere, and someone gotta do it right?

You could offer to do a movie, but I would be upfront that it's about circ. I don't think it would be good to mislead any pregnant women and if you did, they'd certainly report it back to the midwives. If you get educational dvd's about foreskin care you can loan those out to birthing centers too.
You can see if local midwives or birthing centers will post a link to your local NoCirc chapter on the links page of their website. You can do information booths at local baby fairs or on a college campus. Contact local nursing schools and see if you can give a presentation during the OB portion of the semester.
Another great thing to do is have some pamphlets printed and offer them to local midwives for their waiting rooms. Check with your local hospitals (call the nursery) and see which doctors refuse to do circs. Then you can call those doctors and see if you can leave pamphlets in their waiting rooms as well.
Last thing, see if you can design a nice website offering circ info. Personally, I think offering info on things other than circ, like breastfeeding, VBAC, etc. is a nice way to get more traffic to your site and get more pro-intact info out to the public (in addition to having a strictly "NoCirc" website).

BTW- I really admire your passion and enthusiasm. I think you'll make a difference in many babies lives. Just don't come off as too pushy (I don't think you are at all, I'm just mentioning it). Like someone else said in another thread tonight, if we're over-zealous, people will get the wrong idea and not be open to hearing what information we have.
Good luck to you!

I totally agree with you. I was thinking just to do a viewing and later, Q&A. Whatever they can ask I will try my best to answer it. But you should see the video though, it says it all IT'S AMAZING! I won't need to say anything at all!

eta THANK YOU, I really need some encouragement!

Congratulations Enith! I know you'll do a great job. Night nurse has some great ideas I don't know what I can add. Just be sure to prepare yourself for people choosing to circumcise. But don't let that get you down because you will be helping so many! Good Luck!

thank you SO much Joe, this is weird but I think it does affect me more when they are close to my heart like a family member or close friend kwim? acquaintances... I can live with their decision even though it was not the correct one. I will learn as I go...

I need a little help quick though...

I found a domain but not sure if I should get a domain.org OR domain.info The .info is only .99 cents
and .org is $14.99, obviously this is going to be out of my pocket, what would you pick? I will have a combination of information like breastfeeding, gentle parenting and nocirc.

I got the domain figure out but I don't want to say it yet

Either should be fine. Traditionally, .org would have been meant for something like this but .info is fine too. So it's up to you, I guess that doesn't help.

I think you are on the right path. I just wanted to say
. Personally I like .org but you are the one who is paying so you'll have to make that decision. I wish I knew web design. I have browsed your sites and they are awesome! I have a family site but I made it on iweb. I could never make it on my own.

I'm no expert on all of this, but if you are an official chapter of NoCirc and it's a non-profit org, can't you write off any expenses from your taxes? You way want to check into that or ask some people here who are part of any non-profit org. That might help defer some of the costs if you could write it off your taxes. Of course, if it's general baby care info, it might not qualify since it's not exactly for "nocirc", but still worth looking into.

Personally, I like the .org better but I don't know if it makes a huge difference in how people perceive the site before they click.
Whatever you decide, it'll be great!

thank you! I have made my decision on the domain and will soon be posting the link so you can bookmark it or send it to friends. It'll be a bilingual site!

Thanks latinalonestar! It is so easy to build websites though, well, once you do one and get the hang of it, you'll get addicted... I know I am
