There are just some kiddie songs that really grate on my nerves kwim. Barney's songs for instance get under my skin. I used to work in a daycare and I just tuned all the music out but I seem to have lost that talent. lol We like Raffi, the Laurie Berkner Band, The Terrible Twos. My 4 year old LOVES singing and my 2 year old is starting to sing a lot now (and do the cute little hand movements too. ) What would you suggest? TIA.

I really LOVE Tom Hunter's "Still Growing" cd! He just passed away last week, and was such an amazing man. The cd is still available on his website at www.tomhunter.com.

Also, Red Grammer is wonderful. "Teaching Peace" and "Hello World" are my favorite of his cds - available on his website at www.redgrammer.com.

All three of those cds are ones we own, and I've given as gifts many times. We have also been lucky enough to meet them both, and hear them play live. Wonderful, amazing, I promise you will love them!

Putumayo Kids CDs are brilliant and not cheesy annoying kiddie stuff.

http://www.putumayo.com/en/putumayo_kids.php

We love the African playtime on and the folk one.

Also Raffi's-Evergreen Everblue is great, and it has an environmental message.
You can listen to samples on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Evergreen-Ever...4208847&sr=8-1

Dan Zanes, They Might be Giants and The Toddler Sings Series from Music for Little People are they're ultimate favorites (they like the kids singing on the Toddler Sings stuff.) I like the first two because it's more family music.

Otherwise we listen to just anything -- rock, classical, punk, jazz, blues, etc.

Two that we love that haven't been mentioned-
Elizabeth Mitchell- anything by her but our favorite CD is her first one, "You are My Sunshine." Beautiful voice, kid type songs but not too kiddy- does that make sense? Adult/traditional songs too that my son loves.
Also, Jerry Garcia/David Grisman- Not For Kids Only. Awesome.
Another vote for Jack Johnson's Curious George soundtrack.

Try some of the Sandra Boynton cds. Most come with a songbook so the child or parent can sing along and a lot of the songs are really catchy. There are a variety of singers and styles of songs as well. Our favorites are Dog Train and Philadelphia Chickens.
